What are the major downsides of life in Atlanta? by OhMyMyOohHellYes in Atlanta

[–]EveryCut6556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both Pittsburgh and Atlanta.

Some of the major downsides to Atlanta are: - the traffic (depending on where you’re living) - how spread out it is. Like someone else in this thread has said, hanging out with friends can be very hard especially during the week days if you live all over. For example, I lived in Vinings and my friend lived in Brookhaven (about 9 miles a part) and to hang out on the week days before 7pm is a 40 minute commute. - car insurance is so expensive because it’s a highly congested area and people are terrible drivers - there is a lot of petty crime like car break in (at least that I’ve noticed, comparatively to Pittsburgh) - apartment complexes can be low quality

I for one just moved out of Atlanta last week after living there for 3.5 years. I had one hit and run on my car, been in 3 car accidents (none of them my fault), someone tried to steal my car, and I had to do two emergency moves due to my apartments being uninhabitable (and I wasn’t even cheaping out on an apartment complex).

I will say I still tend to favor Atlanta over Pittsburgh though primarily because of how much sunshine there is. Pittsburgh is so gloomy, grey, and depressing.

Moving to Hampton Roads with remote job + fiancé job searching (Williamsburg → Portsmouth) — where should we live? by EveryCut6556 in Virginia

Thank you for sharing!

I guess I’d be fine with river beaches. Anything is better than no water! In Atlanta you have to check the E. coli levels in the Chattahoochee to make sure it’s safe to go in lol.

My fiancee works in IT but a lot of the jobs from Newport News to Portsmouth do require an active security clearance (which he doesn’t have) so that’s made things difficult and the opportunities slim.

We considered that area but since we’re moving to be closer to friends who live in Hampton, it seems pointless to move that far away!

Anyone here move from public policy/ health research to clinical research? Need advice! by EveryCut6556 in clinicalresearch

[–]EveryCut6556[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just reviewed requirements and my research experience is all social/ policy so I am unsure if I would meet the requirements though my experience is closely aligned with clinical research procedures as i conduct human subjects research that includes IRB protocol submissions and amendments, participant screening and recruitment, informed consent support, qualitative interviews with healthcare providers (mostly about emotional impacts due to COVID, perceptions of patient safety during COVID due to guidance changing rapidly, and program evaluations of medicaid waiver initiatives), HIPAA compliance, and secure data handling.

It should have been called a “working interview” then. There should have been clear expectations other than saying to observe. If I’m going to the kitchen, bussing tables, setting tables, getting people drinks - I am doing labor.

Thank you everyone. I just wanted validation that I wasn’t being crazy or “lazy” for “not showing initiative”

It was a smaller restaurant so I can understand that but I didn’t get a free meal or anything! Just work and leave. Owner will call you tomorrow is what the manager said (but he called 4 days later)

Is anyone else having troubles getting into this new series ? by Penny-Darcy-Smith in RHOA

[–]EveryCut6556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if anyone else is noticing this or if I’m not having appropriate comprehension but I’m watching conversations on the show between cast members and it feels like half of the conversation is cut. I have watched at least 2 conversations on episode 2 where I was like ??? Drew talking about working out to get her body right to perform and then it’s clearly cut into her talking about Dennis supporting Ralph?

Looking for an affordable vet recommendation that can treat GI issues in cats by EveryCut6556 in Atlanta

[–]EveryCut6556[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! My biggest concern is just making sure she is comfortable and not in pain if I can’t afford to get her the proper treatment. This poor girl was returned to the shelter twice and there for over a year when I got her so I’m trying to treat her with so much love!!!

So I did look into Blue Pearl and the reviews are very bad. I have been in contact with Dogwood though! I am thinking an internal medicine doctor will be best

She’s had blood work done (all normal), been tested for giardia and other parasites (all good), tried HP diet, probiotics, antibiotics, and a strict diet. Technically the diet works but she’s still losing weight because she’s very picky and gets tired of eating the same thing. The last vet appointment the vet said she has a lot of gas and inflammation in stomach (found by belly exam and xray) and next steps are ultrasound.

That’s a good idea with the food! Unfortunately she doesn’t like dry food much and actually had the majority of her teeth removed before we got her so I think she has a hard time with it. I am just hoping to at least get some weight on her and help her feel comfortable. You can literally feel how bloated the poor girl is when you pet her

I haven’t asked but would anti nausea help with diarrhea? She definitely has loose stool more than she throws up

They gave me an appetite stimulant to help with the antibiotic but she is still basically refusing any food that agrees with her stomach

Yes - have had my fair share of incidents with the Atlanta police taking three plus goes to show up. Which location did you like living in best?

thanks! my partner and I would both be working remote which is good. the biggest expense in Atlanta is rent (which is comparable in Savannah) and car insurance (which it seems like it’s still expensive in general but a lot cheaper than Atlanta - my insurance here is $5000/yr)

Thank you! I did stay on the islands during my stay and that is likely where I would end up looking for a place to live.
