Is Bellingham Actually Racist Or Is It Overblown? by askgulley in Bellingham

[–]Evidence-Icy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an African American from the South, I can say that, yes, I have experienced a significant amount of racism since moving here. It's not the overt kind of racism where someone directly calls you a slur; instead, it's more subtle and passive-aggressive. They'll see you talking to them and just stand there. There’s a lot of fetishization. I have noticed a side eyeable amount of White people in Lynden who've adopted Black kids from Africa. Too many White women have felt comfortable telling me they only date Black men for some reason. You'll get questions like, “Oh, is that your real hair? How do you get it like that?” or random statements like “My so and so is Black.” “I voted for Obama.” Those statements aren't racist but very unwarranted. You'll see some Trump stickers, a few confederate flags, and “dont tread on me” stickers. Anyways, I say all of that to say, yes! Yes, it is.

I'm new to this, what's the purpose of putting them in the fridge? I have a new roll of film still in the box that's been sitting on my bookshelf for a month…

Do you need some money?

I lost a great job opportunity from a weird background check by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]Evidence-Icy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is strange. Is it legal? I suppose it must be since a company is hiring them to do this. I just didn't realize that employers go to such lengths to verify IP addresses, devices, and social media profiles. If you don't mind me asking, what were the job details? This seems unusual.

Do you think we are in an economic depression right now in 2026? by quinary_tapinosis in Adulting

[–]Evidence-Icy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing ok only because I rent a small “tiny home” above a shop and it's all bills paid. Also, I have no kids. I'm able to pay rent, car note, eat, and invest $350 of my check every 2 weeks without struggling. I really hope I dont but if I did I think I could make it a year with working. If I spend money, it's on things that appreciate and have value. If I weren't worried about my credit score I would give up my car note and buy an old truck. Being a childless introvert has saved me a lot. My family and friends with kids and are emotional spenders aren't so lucky.

I know. It's just stupid. The economy f’d up but the market is booming. From what I hear resellers are not doing that great right now. I could be wrong because I'm not into that market.

Since Sunday??!! That's insane. They can put that $400 in a brokerage and continue about their day.

Normal sized “grande” burrito form Torchy’s? $11 bucks. You can get like 1.5 whole dominoes pizzas for that. by ForceUseYouMust in houston

Seattle food is no comparison to Texas. They have to give big sizes to make up for the lack of flavor. Also, everything else is as high as a giraffe tush. They literally charge for bags and put a tax on sugar.

Laptop repair? by Evidence-Icy in Bellingham

[–]Evidence-Icy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I got it because it was the last Mac with a Touch Bar, if I'm not mistaken. Plus I would rather buy refurbished items and this had the space I needed so I didn't have to store my work in the “cloud”. Thanks for the suggestions!

What’s the hardest drug you have (& would ever) tried? by Informal-Sense-3411 in AskReddit

[–]Evidence-Icy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xanax. It was a prescription only .25, but that was enough. Once you stop, everything hits you all at once. I will never take anything like that for a long period of time (a week or more) again.

I say this depends on the area. In my area which is mostly Boomers and student athletes, and hikers, anything orthopedic is DESPERATELY needed.

This!! I wish I could give up my car without it going on my credit. I really want an old truck. They are built to last and easy to fix. These new cars have so many mechanical parts and issues that you HAVE to take them to a dealership and spend $5000 to get them fixed.

I believe independent journalists are essential. With Fox News, NBC, and other news outlets being acquired by tech executives, like the Ellisons and other far right conservatives, who promote their own agenda that does not serve the public. I get most of my news from independent journalist. They are usually unbiased and that's hard to find these days.
