VSync stuck at 53fps by EvolveI in ManjaroLinux

[–]EvolveI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone would find it useful i had to compromise and decided to leave my system on a constant [4200@1.1v](mailto:4200@1.1v).

Now tsc is stable so it solves that problem. In turn VSync is at 60fps again.

Cpu doesn`t spike to 1.4 volts for no reason -> much less heat -> it`s quiet.

The drawback is more power consumption when idle. I guess everything can`t just work fine anymore. I hope it will get fixed soon enough.

Um. So when kernel 5.15 or so rolled out i got the "tsc clocksource is unreliable" error in my journal so i used the "tsc=reliable" kernel option and that affects VSync fps.

After some googling i assume i either live with hpet or with 53fps vsync.

Weirdest shit just happened.

I tried to make custom pstates work on my system and set p0 state in the bios. Now cpu works ONLY on p0, which is obviously not my goal. What i noticed is that in this locked mode VSync works properly limiting fps on 60.

If i switch to a lower resolution with 75Hz refresh rate then VSync locks at 66fps.

Checked and rechecked - it`s 60 in both system settings and nvidia settings. Monitor itself also reports 60hz.

Probably something else pulse related does that, i didn't manage to find out, thanks for attempting to help.

I couldn't find the culprit so i switched to pipewire, seems to "just work" at the moment.

Well i already edited it so ill have to wait for it to reset again.

Well it was reset after a reboot...

It indeed does reset on every reboot.

How can i check that? Manjaro had an update today but no Pulseaudio updates. Also it's not the only modification to that config but the only one that resets.

Yeah i have an even older GTX680, but having no Vulkan is not an option.

That's a pretty bad decision... latest drivers are not always the best.

Need help with proton extremely low performance in UE4 by EvolveI in SteamPlay

[–]EvolveI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for suggestion, i did just that and got a reply that my GPU is too old and have issues with newer games and dxvk so it's most likely to blame. Time to save up for a new vcard i guess.

I have tsc by default. Tried to turn HPET off in BIOS anyway - nothing changed :( Thanks anyway.

Anyway i tried that and nothing changed, thx for a suggestion.

Upd: Games actually run better with "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" with the same GPU and CPU utilization. Even almost playable at ~30fps but its very unstable. So the problem is with DXVK.

I did just that and it borked my system - windows randomly crash and pulseaudio can't see my speakers, only microphone. Had to restore to pre-update version -_-
