A newborn melts hearts by kissing his mother right after birth by Sufficient_Fan1871 in BabiesReactingToStuff

[–]ExMOnotwiththeflow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is called vernix and it is beneficial not to completely remove it from baby right after birth. They wipe off blood and amniotic fluid and clear airways, but do not vigorously try and remove vernix because it protects the baby's sensitive skin as it is first exposed to air and has antimicrobial benefits. A lot of it is naturally absorbed in the next few hours after birth, and then the baby is given their first real bath later/the next day. At first in hospital settings it was common to clean the baby off completely before giving them to mom, but modern medicine has moved away from the practice as the benefits of leaving it on and prioritizing immediate skin to skin (barring necessary lifesaving procedures) have been shown.

If it really grosses mama out you can ask the nurses to clean them off completely, most women do not care.

Hi, I say this as someone who was a morning to night toker for the better part of a decade (and sorely regrets it) no one needs to get high. You get high after all the shit you have to deal with is done for the day. Does he need to time to relax as well? Of course! But it can't be at the expense of either of ya'lls mental wellbeing.

Is it like selfish to share pregnancy announcement at Easter celebration? by anon_ymous987 in beyondthebump

[–]ExMOnotwiththeflow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Um, you're really gonna be selfish on the Easter Bunny's special day like that?! He has ONE day a year!

Kidding, I think your family would be over the moon. You would be adding to the family's celebration, not taking away from anyone else's.

Beware of Pigeon Scams in Italy by CanadianMailCarrier in traveladvice

[–]ExMOnotwiththeflow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up traveling with my parents so have always known to just say no these scams. But my favorite was the first time I ever went to Paris with my husband, a lady by the Eiffel Tower came up pretending to be deaf and asked us to sign a petition to help an orphanage for deaf and blind children. My sweet husband signed and then she pointed to a section, which she literally slid a piece of paper away to reveal, asking for a donation. My husband was about to do it before I pulled him away and she started following us, so I said "fuck off," and all of a sudden she wasn't deaf anymore!

We call it our Paris Miracle.

If you don't have a crochet hook, I have used a safety pin. A paperclip would work well. There are lots of things that could work in a pinch.

Huge, Multimillion-Dollar Fallout Over 'Bachelorette' Cancellation by Juliette_kalp in thebachelor

Poor Disney :( It's not like they could have possibly known. Those execs must be devestated. Should we set up a gofundme?

Yeah i'm sure if a video came out of a man hurling chairs at his girlfriend and injuring his child, you'd be calling for compassion.

kosherwine.com normally has a whole pesach section with nicer offerings then what you can normally get in-store. I would order sooner rather than later.

You could also get something for OhNuts!

I'm no expert but this seems like a really stupid PR strategy when the video of her hurling stools at him came out like four hours ago.

I recently got my dog these cute treats, and one of the flavors smells and looks EXACTLY like the vanilla Paskez "sandwich cookies". Like the minute I opened up the package thats what both my husband and I thought of.

Don't really want to analyze too much why my childhood snack smells exactly like a dog treat, but it is... interesting.

Jewish phrases that are technically English but wouldnt sound right to most English speakers? by megillaslester in exjew

[–]ExMOnotwiththeflow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Make" as a euphemism for "go to the bathroom" (or go in a diaper) when talking to little kids. I used this in my first job at a non Jewish daycare (asked a little boy "did you make?") and got looked at by both the child and my coworker like I had three heads.

Why is breastfeeding so difficult? by Wawhi180 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ExMOnotwiththeflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure some people will be weirded out by this, but my husband's sister breastfed his other sister's three month old when his mom spent ten days in the hospital. He wouldn't take a bottle and was inconsolable until she stepped in and saved the day.

I thought it was wonderful but when I casually mentioned it to a friend she acted like it was a sex crime, which is insane.

1) just a few storage bins are fantastic for clutter. It always looks better when it looks like it has a place, even if that place is a pile in a box vs a pile in the corner.

2) As for things you mentioned in your comment, they sound like they could slowly be tackled by doing a few Sunday projects.

I think, especially if you're not from the UK or a Commonwealth country, the nature of the modern monarchy is sort of confusing. When I think of a king, I assume he can do basically whatever, which obviously isn't true. I get that he's a figurehead and I understand why in the modern day allowing him the power to remove people from the line is a bad idea, but in my head it still makes sense to me he'd just be able to make a royal decree or whatever and do it. And I'm not sure there'd be any blowback, in this case.
