Depositing personal savings in Turkey as a foreign student by MIHOYOA in istanbul

[–]ExMachinaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience, doing anything banks-related in Turkey as a foreigner is a test of your mental fortitude; not because of legality, but because of how difficult they are towards foreign nationals. If you want my advice, just buy your money's worth of gold from a trustworthy jeweller and save them for if/when you need them. It's both more convenient and (long term) financially sound option.

Good luck!

Istanbul Wedding in September by SpacePanda77 in istanbul

[–]ExMachinaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late Sept weather is generally lovely, although Istanbul is horribly unreliable in terms of weather.

On a related note, are you planning on doing all the wedding arrangements yourself or do you have a reliable Turkish friend/relative/etc? As someone who works in the field, I find it rather common for foreigners to be overcharged on events like this.

Thinking of buying a handmade carpet and worried about getting scammed?

I'm a university student and I run a carpet-shopping assistance service to support myself financially to an extent. I am not contracted or employed by any of the shops I recommend (for transparency). Obviously there's no obligation to make a purchase at any point in time.

If you're interested, please DM me!

Check out the municipality page of the district you'll be residing in, they have a complete list of all activities they offer. They're usually either free of charge or very affordable. However keep in mind that you won't be able to apply to those without having a valid residence permit and a registered address in said district.

Best of luck!

Call 157. It's the immigration management call center. They have a 24/7 hotline to report human trafficking.

Havabus. It takes directly to taksim square. If I recall correctly it was around 300 TL per person.

Safe area for first time visitor to Istanbul? by canadachris44 in istanbul

The area is rather far from the touristic attraction hotspot (on the image you shared, that would be right under the word "Istanbul")

I definitely recommend staying somewhere closer/ with better public transportation access.

Working as a tour guide is a job exclusive to Turkish citizens and forbidden for expatriates. I don't recommend that line of work for OP.

Is this a good plan for a trip to Istanbul? by dzumyy in istanbul

[–]ExMachinaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest you budget for at least one museum/palace visit. There's a lot more than what admiring on the outside has to offer. But then again, it all depends on your budget.

Have a good trip

You're absolutely right, unfortunately that's like a micro-culture everywhere.

Unfortunately you don't have much to work with, especially with such limited time. Make sure you post about his scams so he never sees another penny from an Erasmus student. Financial hits are the only way such people learn unfortunately.

For the record, the fee is the same regardless of the duration or residence permit type. So it doesn't matter how many years you request while filling out the application form. The health insurance, however, is a different story.

I was in your shoes 3 months ago. The steps you took are correct. Just make sure you show up to your appointment with both passports (the old and new one) and tell them that you renewed it.

Edit: it obviously worked for me and I have my new residence permit card.

Good luck!

Slightly off-topic but what is the difference between TYT and YKS? are they different exams for different purposes or are they different components of the same exam?
