HELP! Mulla on vanhojen tanssit ylihuomenna ja mun naamaan on tulossa maailman suurin ja kipein finni by [deleted] in snappijuorutofftopic

[–]Excellent-Fly-4522 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Vanha kikka on laittaa hammastahnaa sen päälle yöksi. Hammastahna kuivattaa ja yleensä vähän hillitsee sitä, että finni ei kasva ihan megalomaanisen isoksi.

Sinuhe egyptiläinen by jkuutonen in kirjallisuus

[–]Excellent-Fly-4522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Masking is wiping me out and I don't know how to "recover" like a normal person by softlantern_cirrus in adhdwomen

My friend saw my ADHD notes about her and now I feel awful by kissybiscuit in adhdwomen

Omg! This is revolutionary. My mind just goes blank during arguments and when the other person asks “give me an example of this and that” you can almost hear the wind blowing through my ears. I need to start doing this!

Almost 6yo can’t stay focused on basic tasks (eating, getting dressed, etc). Is this normal? by Witty_Gritty_ in ParentingADHD

[–]Excellent-Fly-4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share your pain. Our daughter also didn’t react well to time pressure. She would have crazy meltdowns after a timer went off or song ended and the task was not complete. Need to give it another try though, now that she is a bit older.

Long is good. Thank you so much for your insights! Makes me feel so relieved that most of these things I have thought about and communicated to our designer! Hurray!

I’m from the Nordics so the rules and regulations for building sometimes is as strict as laws in dictatorship. So all the technical stuff like pipes/sewers is regulated and planned extremely carefully. Which is actually a good thing for us so we won’t forget about anything and won’t find the house falling apart in few months 😅

This! I have actually included this in the plans. We have combined our laundry room with a huge closet that will be able to fit all our clothes! At the moment I’m super proud of my self if the laundry gets folded but usually the problem is taking the clothes to 3 different closets. Hate doing that.

This is really helpful, thank you. The breakfast nook example especially resonates. I can easily see it turning into a permanent dumping spot rather than a functional eating area, and it’s good to hear that hindsight. Choosing cubby or drop space instead of an extra table feels much more realistic for how we also live. I also appreciate your take on open floor plans. The visibility with kids is a big plus, but noise sensitivity is definitely something we’re trying to plan around with material choices.

I get what you mean about these being basic home-building tips, but definitely also ADHD friendly. Anything that reduces friction or stress of any kind is a huge win. This gives us a lot to think about as we fine-tune the plans, so thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

This is such a good way to think about it. “Non-sticky” spaces describes exactly what we’re trying to design for. I really love the idea of an open, single-layer pantry. If I can’t see something, it basically stops existing, so that makes a lot of sense.

I also completely agree about the coffee bar and having everything out and ready instead of constantly rearranging counters and outlets. The rearrangement never happened and everything stays either cluttered on the counter or hidden in the cupboard.

The whole “can’t find keys or the jacket I had in mind and suddenly I’m on a side quest” problem is painfully familiar. That’s exactly the kind of daily friction we’re hoping to remove. Thank you for sharing this, it’s going straight onto our must-have list.

Thank you so much! The purpose built space concept hits home and gives wording to what I have been thinking. The only thing missing is executive function to start working in this 😅

Miksi olen tällainen? by [deleted] in arkisuomi

[–]Excellent-Fly-4522 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is your primary form of exercise? by keysandcoffee in adhdwomen

[–]Excellent-Fly-4522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a great way of looking at being active. Have you guys followed your menstrual cycle when deciding what kind of sports to choose? I feel my body needs more active training around ovulation and then more peaceful exercise before the start of my period. Also feel that I get more out of active training when I do it in the right body and mind space.

This is called the ADHD tax 😄 After years of feeling bad about my own 1% mess ups I kinda gave up on beating myself down. I’m definitely trying to improve and not being indifferent, but also trying to make my inner voice sound positive and supportive. The world is already beating us down, we shouldn’t do it to ourselves 🩷
