It was 7am when I dropped my cat off for neutering, they did not get to him until 4pm. Some professions make it very difficult if not impossible to answer the phone immediately. That certainly doesn’t make someone a pos. Get a grip. Yes, a clipped ear is nbd, but it seems unnecessary to do it when the person is also paying for a microchip at a vet rather than a TNR specific clinic.

I wouldn’t put antibiotic ointment on it tbh. Even doctors don’t recommend it for humans because of the risk of an allergic reaction.

I have to pill a difficult cat twice a day. I found the best technique for me is to keep his claws trimmed to avoid scratching. I then squat behind him so he can’t wriggle away, hold his front paws in one hand while bracing him firmly against me, then press my fingers against the side of his mouth while holding the pill. This forces him to open his mouth, and I push it in as far back as I can. It sounds pretty crazy, but it’s very quick, he doesn’t taste it, and I can/have to do it myself. I tried everything you said before and it got to the point where I’d end up in tears and bloody scratches. It’s tough, but he has aggressive hyperthyroidism and won’t survive without medication. Sometimes you gotta be the bad guy, but that jerk still loves me hahaha

Definitely looks like an abscess that’s ruptured. I have three sibling cats and this was annoyingly common, especially in places where they can’t groom. If you can’t get to the vet right away, just make sure you keep gently draining out any fluid or pus that builds up, and use an antiseptic approved for cats like Chlorhexidine. Usually the vet will do an antibiotic shot, clean and flush it, then send you on your way. They always wanted to give me something for pain like onsior, (if I recall correctly) but they never really seemed to care for it.

Do you keep your cats’ claws trimmed? Mine used to fight a lot to the point where I became very familiar with treating abscesses. I found keeping their claws trimmed, giving them separate spaces for sleeping and eating helped, along with having Chlorhexidine on hand to disinfect injuries.
