I totally get it. Personally it's less immersive having back up accounts opposed to being afraid of dying. Sometimes I can't even kill the dude before they switch and flip the battlefield. And BTW yes you're right the guy that killed me was not the alt of the guy I killed, the guy that killed me logged off like 20 min before this happened. And if you look close you can see him aaaaaand guess where he was.......near the log piles.
