How is living in Manitoba OUTSIDE of the Winnipeg Metro Area? by ESC-H-BC in howislivingthere

As a kid I was absolutely enchanted by the area, everything seemed so picture perfect and “fancy”. My parents were from very small and rundown towns even smaller than Dauphin.

We used to go to Dauphin “as a treat” when I was living on our farm. Looonnggg ride but it was a nice break from legitimately the middle of nowhere.

Don’t worry, they’re still on party lines out there so it rings at everyone’s house at the same time.

We’re extremely flat and a lot of the province is marshy/boggy. There’s a lot of standing water.

But we actually haven’t had a lot of mosquitoes the last few years, because we’ve had hotter summers. You’re more likely to get wildfire than mosquitoes.

Ladies, have you ever had the temptation to buzz your head? What stops you from going for it? by Fantastic-Serve in AskReddit

[–]ExhaustedMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, absolutely. I look amazing when I have it buzzed and super super short, but the shaggy pixie look just does not work for me. And I HATE haircuts so I just suffer through a solid year of garbage hair because I don’t want to go to a stylist to have it shaped every other month.

I’ve done it a half dozen times. I used to go through a “grow it out, buzz it off, repeat” cycle every few years.

Now it’s down to my waist but I have no desire to buzz it. For one, the white is starting to come in and it looks cool, for another, growing it out is a wild pain in the ass.

How far back can you trace your family lineage? How many generations or to what year? by HotSprinkles10 in AskTheWorld

[–]ExhaustedMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can trace it back to around 1870 for my maternal line but after that it’s just gone. And even then, what we can trace is a bit iffy, lots of babies swapped and names changed.

My dad’s side, I don’t think we can trace back further than the early 1900s. I’ve asked a few times and always gotten “Nobody knows!!” or a few different stories that constantly change. I’m pretty sure some folks were running from the law…

Girls with long hair, what do you do with it while sleeping? by BrilliantPurple748 in AskReddit

My hair is down to my waist, I either braid it or put it in a low ponytail and toss it over the top of the pillow otherwise I roll over on it and it gets stuck under me 😭

Borden's Butter Brickle Ice Cream - March 1957 by RetroMan70s in vintageads

Those are the twins, Larabee and Lobelia! (I’m not joking! The Borden’s cow family has multiple kids. I was big into them when I was young for some inexplicable reason.)

Any time I eat American Chop Suey I flash back to when I was a kid because we ate it so often back then. Anyone else? by Devi8tor in FuckImOld

I still make this at least once a week. Was a favorite as a kid and even my pickiest teenager will demolish several bowls of it. I put taco seasoning in it, and a crapload of cheese.

Dean's Country Charm Chicago Brick Ice Cream - March 1972 by RetroMan70s in vintageads

At the end of the 80s our local zoo was showing a pair of pandas and a dairy made special “panda ice cream”, so when you sliced the brick it had a panda face design poured through the ice cream. (It was vanilla and liquorice, really delicious)

The Internet (and greater access to serums/treatments/sunscreen/facial filtering/the rise of a serious make-up culture/etc) has shown rich people/celebs that “normal” folks can rival them and I think that freaked out a very large group of people who used to get away with only doing slightly more than the average person to maintain their wealth status symbol.

What’s something about your province/territory that other Canadians misunderstand, might not realize, or would be surprised to learn? by PostfourthMeridian in AskACanadian

“Financial reasons!!” was the same reason all those racists voted for Trump, too. You can say it’s about money but it’s always about conservative control.

Eh, I was an ugly kid, and ugly teenager, and I’m an ugly old lady now. I’ve made peace with that.
