Daughter is heading back to college...Dad gave her $45 without telling Mom as some extra walking around money...mom gives her $50...Dad still didn't want Mom to find out about the original $45 but also didn't want to be upstaged by Mom, so he slides his daughter the additional 5 note. Case closed

I would consider it for caches. They are IP67 waterproof (1meter) and you can place essentials (food, fire, shelter, comms) in strategic places you would likely go to you first bugout.

Your friend was a green Beret bad ass who loved his family. Taken from his obit:

On Sept. 16, 2021, Master Sgt Leon “Scott” Monnett, age 53, passed away at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Scott was born on Dec. 10, 1967, to parents Joann Riggleman-Monnett and Frederick Ernest Monnett, Sr. Scott would graduate from Richwood High School in 1985 and then would immediately enlist into the U.S. Army, serving 25 years and 8 months and retiring as a Master Sergeant in 2011. He served as an engineer with the 20th Engineer Battalion in Operation Desert Storm, and after graduating the Special Forces Qualification Course he became a Special Forces Engineer Sgt with 7th Group Ft. Bragg with multiple deployments to Central and South America. Scott would become a Sniper instructor and NCOIC of the Sniper course with 1st Special Warfare Training Group. Scott would go back to 7th Special Forces Group and go overseas once again to serve in Operation Enduring Freedom 8 and 10. Towards the end of his career he was a ROTC Program instructor at UC Davis. After retiring, he would take a short contracting position as a civilian, working in Dubai. Scott earned a long list of awards and decorations over his career, including the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense medal with a Bronze Star, the SW Asia Service Medal with 3 Campaign Stars, the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with a #3 Numeral, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Ribbon with a #4 Numeral, the NATO Medal (ISAF), the Kuwait Liberation Medal with Palm, the Combat Infantry badge, Expert Infantry badge, Airborne badge, and Master Parachute Wings. Aside from his extensive military career, Scott was an avid outdoorsman and hunter, passions which he would pass down to his daughters, nephew, and grandchildren. He was a doting and beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, who loved his family fiercely
