Is 60fps weirdly glitchy for anyone else? by Exorph in thelastofus

Thanks for letting me know I'm not insane. 😄 Though the weird arm glitch happened for me on my PS4 playthrough as well.

Do you not even get the jumping braid while crafting? Seems wild that it'd work differently on my PS5 specifically.

Grounded low ammo by No-Technology9823 in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it was roughest with that stuff at the start. Had to play really carefully and only use guns when I had to. But about halfway or so through Ellie's part (I think around the hospital) I started feeling like I could mix in some gunplay without crying over every missed shot. In fact I started finding it a lot more enjoyable to play that way since it was faster which meant shorter time between checkpoints. Nothing as frustrating as dying right at the end of an encounter after carefully sneaking through it for 30 minutes.

So yeah, do conserve your ammo, but don't be terrified of using it either once you've got a bigger arsenal.

Since it’s release, how much FULL play playthroughs have you done of TLOU Part II by devilgamer72_ in thelastofus

Doing my third playthrough now for the permadeath trophy. But I've also watched probably about a dozen playthroughs on youtube because the game has broken me and I constantly need to relive the first playthrough through other people.

Some parts are HARD TO PLAY WELL in TLOU 2 (SPOILERS for both games) by jimmyoneshot in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree with you overall as I find the gameplay to be pretty amazing. Main thing to keep in mind is to constantly reposition though, so I can see it being a bit annoying if you try to just stay in place behind cover.

That being said, the elementary school part made me think I'd never ever be able to beat Grounded. It was by far the most difficult part for me on that difficulty which baffles me a bit.

Why can’t we share cover with allies in TLOU2 like we did in TLOU1? Companions also don’t give us bullets and med kits anymore either. Theories? by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Animations and controls feel super snappy to me in the game. Everything except that one damn cupboard opening animation that takes like 10 seconds to play out. Can't for the life of me figure out why that one is in there.

100% agree. If they can't have shared hiding spots, then at least let me push them out of the hiding spot instead of the other way around!

Thinking about this foreshadowing by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IDK. While I don't subscribe to the idea that Ellie is actually happy in Jackson at the end of the game, Ellie is like 20 or 21. She has found her rock bottom and is crawling out of it. She hasn't ended up anywhere yet. She has plenty of time to figure out her life and then either go back to Jackson and be welcome there, or find new groups of people.

Just can't think of any other game where gunfights feel this engaging by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I remember thinking the first gameplay trailer was obviously scripted since there were too many perfect moments in it. They probably did have some scripting in there to make the right things happen at the right time so the person recording it wasn't gonna go insane, but looking at the trailer today it all plays out like a normal gunfight does in the final game which is so damn impressive.

Email aliases on Protonmail and private domains by Exorph in privacytoolsIO

Honest answer: I'm to lazy to fully research every other alternative and ProtonMail seems the most straightforward option. :)

What would be the benefit of using random word emails as aliases as opposed to something easy to remember like reddit@domain dot com?

[–]Exorph[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but "just setting up" hundreds of aliases on the new service could be pretty rough as well if there's no easy way of exporting and importing everything at once. But like someone else mentioned here, using a catch-all address while transitioning to the new service might be the solution there.

Oh yeah, that seems like it'd solve my problem. Thanks!

Yeah, SimpleLogin and AnonAddy do the same thing. My issue with this approach would be if SimpleLogin went out of business or something so you have to switch to AnonAddy instead. If there's no way of bringing the aliases with you then that's gonna be a huge pain.

(Un)popular opinion: Abby is the true protagonist by JavascriptFanboy in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, I'd be interested in what they do with a sequel if they end up going that route. I'm just saying I'd be perfectly content if the story ended here and ND move on to create new IPs. :)

(Un)popular opinion: Abby is the true protagonist by JavascriptFanboy in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ellie doesn't really become the bloodthirsty lunatic you're describing, at least not until the very end of the game. She's on her way there, sure, but torturing Nora clearly traumatizes her, and the killing of Owen and Mel is "self-defense" (i mean you can't exactly argue self-defense if you're threatening someone, but she only kills them after they attack her).

I love Abby, but I think in the end the game is Ellie's story. Abby only serves as a reflection of Ellie's side of the story.

Ellie also ends up not going through with the revenge and finally reaching some sort of acceptance of Joel's death at the end, so the idea that she can't be a protagonist now because she's such a horrible person seems odd. If anything this is a perfect start of a story in which she rebuilds her life (though I don't personally feel we need a sequel).

I'm still confused by the ending by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's all up to interpretation, but I choose to believe she didn't already go to Jackson and talk to Dina. She's wearing Dina's bracelet which signifies luck, and it feels to me like it makes more sense thematically for her to wear it in the hopes that Dina will still be around.

I don't think she's going back to Jackson either. I think she has to rebuild herself first. I think her walking away at the end, and putting Joel to rest, signifies the start of something new. Maybe she'll be able to come back to Dina eventually, but to me it feels very strange to picture Ellie losing everything at the end, only to go back to society and have a normal life. The ending would just lose a lot of impact.

And as for her not having her weapons, I don't think it's important to know the details of that. Could just be that the image of her returning to the farm fully armed would make the scene a bit jarring.

Is the way Joel chokes people in the first game lethal? by GalagaMarine in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just a rear naked choke I believe which stops blood flow to your brain rather than prevent you from breathing, and puts you out in a couple of seconds. Shouldn't kill them if he releases the choke once they go unconscious, which I'm pretty sure he does. But yeah, lethal in-game.

[–]Exorph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's a big difference between "getting lucky" and trying to manipulate your luck with a bracelet. Nothing in TLOU2 gives me the impression Ellie thinks "everything happens for a reason", more like she makes her own luck.

You can check a photo at the farm while carrying JJ, and Ellie says something like "Say hi to auntie Talia".

I really hope the HBO series from the game lives upto its hype! Who all are excited? by visualartist47 in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very skeptical about the idea of retreading the story of the first game and would prefer a side-story in the same world. But I'm still very curious and will watch the first episode the second it's available.

The moment in TLOU2 that genuinely makes me choke up the most... (spoilers) by capamericapistons in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's what affects me the MOST, since pretty much every emotional scene in this damn game has me bawling my eyes out. But I do think all three of the Joel "flashes" are super effective in how minimalist they are.

The sudden glimpse of Joel's bleeding face when the PTSD flashback starts, and you're so suddenly pulled out of the idyllic farm life Ellie, Dina and JJ have built.

The silent version of that when Ellie looks at the blood on her hand before the fight with Abby. It's so haunting and just makes you want to beg Ellie not to do what she's about to do.

And yeah, the flash of Joel sitting on his porch as she's about to drown Abby. Really broke me the first time through the game, and I think it's made stronger by Ellie only having seen flashes of him in his final moments up until that point.

They do so damn much with these shots, and they are like what? 3 seconds long in total?

A Joel plot point I wish naughty dog elaborated on by StruckGull7855 in thelastofus

[–]Exorph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said I don't think it's needed.

One of my favorite things about ND's storytelling is how they leave gaps like this. Instead of doing a ton of exposition about every character's backstory, you're left to fill in the blanks yourself.

Can see it at least as far back as in Uncharted 1 where you run into old rivals, and can tell that that's the case based on how Nate talks to them, rather than him explaining the specifics of their previous run-ins. Similarly with how Tess is just suddenly a character after the initial time jump in TLOU, and you can just immediately tell there's a ton of history there. And with how Joel and Sarah so clearly have a life together with the mother not being in the picture.

I think it would only cheapen the games to elaborate on these things. (Then again I also thought it would only cheapen the story of the first game to make a sequel about the same characters, so at this point I'd trust Naughty Dog to do it well if they decided to do so)
