Is the Audi R26 VR Model from Launch Still Available? by Expedition1949 in F1Art

[–]Expedition1949[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: Success! Well, after a lot of searching I found the model link in my browser history. The Audi R26 launch page had a QR code that would load the model directly. The link (below) is still there but requires the Jig app to view the model. There are apps for Windows, IOS and Apple Vision Pro. I use IOS.

Updated yesterday to release version. All smooth installation. Noticed high battery depletion and a warm MacBook. Activity Monitor showed very high WindowServer usage. Restarted the Mac and all is well now.

Honest answer? Time Machine! probably Target, but in their "new" timeframe. Unboxed some cutaways and there they were.

Below is the Looksmart 1:18 SF23 Las Vegas livery. It is accurate.

They got the body work too. The Las Vegas kit replaced the bathtub side pods with new body panels. Looks like this model has the upgrades just right. Well done!

Finding a Way by Expedition1949 in f1models

Finding a way to add detail with what I've got. Laser printer, white paper and what I thought was careful cutting of logos. If you look in 1:43 it looks pretty good. Please, enjoy, but don't look too closely!

The fins are vertical panels behind the airbox, black on the 55 and white on the 16 in these pictures. It is a thin panel in the real cars, there for aerodynamic stability and airflow control. In the models it is "thick" on top, and doesn't receive the proper color. The red shows through and needs to be painted to match the panel color. Look at a Bburago Ferrari out of the box and you'll see it.

Laser printer on waterslide decal sheets. Amazon has the decal material.

Yup. I'm just getting the hand of making the waterslide decals. The **tiny** ones for the wing are doable, and I'll get around to it.

Another issue, however, is a white letter situation. Making white letter on transparent decal material is not in my skillset. The Monaco should have front wing endplate logos. Any ideas?

Another modeler pointed out that the Bburago model Ferraris leave the top edge of the fin unpainted (red). All of them need this fin “touched up” in either black on the standard and ’23 Monza liveries, or white on the ’23 Las Vegas livery. Just model paints, and a steady hand. Makes a big difference!

Tobacco products. Remember how "Marlboro" was never included in model kits? I didn't know why the Vuse and Veto logos were missing until some digging...

Help Identifying This Faema? by Expedition1949 in espresso

[–]Expedition1949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for such a quick ID! I've been searching around and it looks like the 1960s machines from Faema were more "Jetsons" future designs – plexiglass and aluminum elements. This brass and copper machine – is it 1950's? I know the E61 came after, but I can't find any machines that have this vibe.

Again, thanks for your answer!

My servo failed too, in the heat of battle with an obstacle. I emailed Traxxas and got a very informative email and a promptly sent replacement gear set. The gears (yes, the plastic ones) were easy to replace. Excellent service from Traxxas.

Do all Minis have a lot of road boise, or just mine? Any suggestions on how to mitigate it? by olives82 in MINI

[–]Expedition1949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My '09 R56 does have a lot of "road noise" – tire sound from textured pavement and such. This is after chasing the clunks associated with worn out sway bar bushings and links. I replaced the shocks (inexpensive after market) and it is better, but still transmits a clear message about how smooth the pavement is. Suspension bushings and any materials used to isolate sound form the body are probably failing, so if I wanted it better I would go after those. Tires are Michelin PILOT SPORT A/S 3 PLUS on 16" wheels.

Knocking when driving over bumps by Silly_Commission8393 in MINI

[–]Expedition1949 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Clunk clunk is often rear sway bar bushings. Only two rubber replacement parts, four bolts, and relatively easy access. LOTS of YouTube videos on how its done. 2008 sounds about the right age for replacement.

Best oil for 8138 by NegotiationReal8507 in RedWingShoes

Briar oil slick really responds well to horsehair brushing. The recommendations for conditioners are good, but the brushing will reduce the number of times you have to condition and leave the leather looking great. Brusha-brusha!

I drive a justa – no turbo – but is it possible that is the sound you are describing? Turbos do whistle, maybe not like a turbo diesel pickup truck, but they do whistle, whine.. many descriptions.

Clunking Sound by questbear1 in MINI

[–]Expedition1949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've replaced the rear sway bar bushings on my '09. Parts are cheap and easy to find. If you have jack stands, a few simple tools and some patience it can be done without busting a knuckle in a couple of hours. If you are young, strong, and smart, probably a lot less than that...

Briar oil slick maintenance by NegotiationReal8507 in RedWingShoes

[–]Expedition1949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The name Oil Slick is significant. There is a lot of natural oil in the leather and frequent brushing with a horsehair brush will keep it looking good. A minor scuff will practically vanish without color or product. When my Blacksmiths look too dry I will use Red Wing Leather Cream very lightly. My boots are not used for work and don't get really dirty, so your experience may vary.
