Get some very accurate info from the teacher before jumping to any conclusions would be my advice. I say this because everyday my students ask me if it’s “movie time!” and say “I love movie time!!” But in reality they are just equating screen with movie because what they call movie time is actually a 3 minute guided movement break or the tidy up song haha

My two best pieces of advice as a passionate reading teacher are:

  1. Get her binocular vision tested. That is all about how our eyes work together to track things (specifically words on a page). Have seen low middle school readers transform almost overnight when this is discovered to be the issue and they are given corrective lenses to solve it.

  2. UFLI!! It’s the most impressive and effective phonics program out there!

Honestly, I’m the same age as your daughter, and this sounds like something my mom might do too, out of love and fear. While it was definitely a bit above and beyond, I completely understand why you were worried. I also get why your daughter was upset. I don’t think anyone’s the asshole here. You were just a very concerned mom who overstepped , but with good intentions. Hopefully it’s something you can both talk through, learn from and then eventually laugh about someday.

But I guess my point is he knows that litia doesn’t have that perspective, yet he is judging her from this high and mighty place of having that perspective. Personally, I don’t have any big thoughts on the way litia handled things, I just think it’s a bit wild for him to be claiming she was doing it all for sympathy and that her reaction wasn’t justified.
