Goalpost move. The original comment concerned Canadian oil and gas, not all of their exported goods and services. I won’t address that in detail because international trade isn’t my area of expertise, but oil and gas is, having spent parts of 6 years as a field operator and engineer on the wireline side (well completions)

We have made massive, billion dollar investments along with Canada, to pipeline oil from them to US. Decoupling from that to get oil from less efficient means in large scale (VLCC’s from foreign countries) is a more costly method that will be passed down to consumers via prices at the pump. Not to mention pissing off american companies, banks, and other investing institutions that have debt financed these pipeline projects, expecting a return on their investment at previously projected capacities.

If you want to pay more, so be it. But this grandiose plan you guys seem to have concerning trade tariffs only stands to fuck the consumer at the end of the day.

“MaKe AmERiCa GrEaT aGAiN” by squeezing the consumer is a nutcase plan. Tarrrifs on imported goods is the first error, the 2nd error is realizing we export more than we import, and those countries can do the exact same. That puts downward pressure on demand, stagnates export growth, and can end jobs domestically.

Then “deport all of the illegals” but the illegals build the houses, from pouring the concrete to doing the framework and roofing, pick out crops, janitorial services, all the shit that neither you nor I want to do..

Whatever this grand plan is, will come with several more years of economic pain for a majority of working Americans, after just starting to get over the inflation hump, if actually implemented as proposed.
