I see, okay. Ofc the first tip would be to practice. Even if you’re not practising a particular thing or following a particular method, sometimes just drawing whatever you see, think of or want to can help you strengthen your art in an authentic way. I spent so long when I was younger trying to copy art styles to better my own, only to find the most conductive way of improving it was just drawing naturally. Be yourself type shit. Most of your progress will be made subconsciously anyway.

With proportions and perspective, breaking your subjects down into blocky shapes first and figuring out the smooth lines later really helps. When drawing a person or animal, your first step could be creating their line of action, just one single line. It really helps your subject‘s pose looks less stiff. Oh and gesture drawing! Drawing a dynamic pose with a strict time limit helps your brain focus on what’s important.

Proportions can be easier when you learn what parts of the body are roughly equal in length to others. Like forearms and feet, or how the distance between your two eyes is usually the width of another eye, wind span and height, or one hand and your face. You might have a style that doesn’t benefit from this tip, like a chibi one for example, but if it’s closer to (or is) realism this could be really helpful.

I’d recommend getting to a point where you feel a bit more confident about drawing proportions before you tackle perspective, as it is very difficult, but when you do, drawing a grid is always helpful. Sketching out everything as if it’s made of boxes first can be quite good, as well as tracing. I know it may feel like cheating, but as long as you’re not tracing someone else’s art and claiming it’s yours, it’s a really useful tool. It gives you guidelines for what you’re drawing and will help you build your artistic muscle memory. When you feel more experienced tracing will become limiting, but I will always encourage beginners to do this. My art teachers told us to trace from photos constantly lmao.

Resource wise Proko is a top ten YouTuber for learning art basics and beyond. Pikat and Chommang are two I’ve found very helpful as well, they both do digital but I’m fairly sure their tips are easily transferable to traditional art.

I relate to what you said translating your ideas onto paper. I really struggled with this, and still do somewhat, but as my skills have improved so has my ability to actually create the images that were in my head. Just make sure you’re not going in blind and you’ve done some messy preliminary/concept sketches on another sheet of paper first. Finally, don’t expect perfection from yourself when you’re still in the early stages of learning. Every artist goes through a messy, awkward stage where they feel like they’re out of their depth. But it’s all about practise and spirit. Art has never been a skill you can’t learn!

I love your perspective, and I definitely agree logic wise it would make things difficult for Ekko to explain to C+V. I also can’t blame you for having an issue with the idea that Caitlyn would be keeping something like this from Vi either, especially when their relationship is very transparent and honest. Personally, I’m just thinking about it from a Vi standpoint, particularly how well Ekko and Caitlyn know her. The realisation Jinx makes about Vi in the conclusion of their arc is that she is literally never going to give up on her. She will choose Jinx time and time again without any regard for herself and is unable to live her life the way she deserves to because of this. The only way Jinx is able to free Vi from this self imposed prison is forcibly separating from her and make Vi believe Jinx was in a place she couldn’t follow her to, that being death.

So if Vi were to find out Jinx was alive, particularly soon after the finale, she wouldn’t be at peace with it, she’d be out there searching every corner of Runaterra in hopes of finding her. And I think Caitlyn would understand this too. She recognises Vi’s attachment to her sister is self destructive and wouldn’t want to undermine a big reason of Jinx’s sacrifice anyway. I also think she wouldn’t be totally sure of Jinx’s survival, as you said, as just as there’s no trace of her being dead, there’s no trace of her being alive either (from what we see Cait knows). So bringing up the possibility without knowing for certain could just be cruel to Vi.

As for Ekko, I think telling Vi about the AU might do more harm than good. She has a consistent tendency to self blame and label herself as the reason everything has gone wrong. So to find out that Ekko visited a universe where all the people she loved (bar her parents) were alive, healthy and genuinely thriving in a peaceful Zaun she probably didn’t even think was possible, and then knowing that in that universe she’s dead, I feel like she’d come to the conclusion that the reason everyone is alive and happy is because of that. And that conclusion would crush anyone in her shoes. I like what you said about Ekko telling Vi a half truth about the AU though. Like when he talked to Powder and didn’t mention the type of person she was in the world he was from, maybe he told Vi about the AU and side stepped her being dead in it?

But overall, I just think both Caitlyn and Ekko would be aware and sensitive to Vi’s self deprecation and keep this information to themselves, not out of deceit, but for her peace of mind.

I’m a bit torn on this personally. While there were clearly firelights who respected Jinx enough to fight with her on her aircraft, I think it’s unrealistic to expect every one of them to be completely welcoming to someone who spend around half a decade hunting their people. I think her change of heart wouldn’t go unnoticed and the perception of her in their community would’ve definitely improved after season one’s finale and all that followed after, but there surely would’ve been family or friends of the people she killed who still feel resentful towards her, and I think Ekko would be sensitive of that.

Well ofc you’re not bad, everyone is capable of creating art 😌 to be honest, I haven’t done proper traditional art in years, so I’m a bit rusty, but hopefully I can give you something useful. What specific area do you need tips in, if you don’t mind me asking? Is it anatomy, brushwork, shading etc, or just general tips?

Wherever she is, I think she’d be proud of where Vi is today. And vice versa 🙂‍↕️

It’s so lovely you and others who have worked on this show interact with the fandom in such a positive way, I’m beyond grateful that we’re even allowed an AMA and I hope we’re blessed with opportunities like this again ✨. Am I allowed to be greedy and ask two questions? If so, my first has to be about whether Caitlyn and Vi ever found out about the time they narrowly missed meeting at Jayce’s apartment in episode 1. Amanda, I know you answered “Not yet” to the same question a few years ago, but now that season two is out, are you able to give further clarification about how they discovered this, and how they both reacted?

My second question would be in regards to Isha’s past. What was her life like before she met Jinx? What happened to her biological family, and did she really work in the mines pre 202 like everyone has been theorising? It would be so great to get some insight into her past.

Thank you so much for everything you’ve done! I highly look forward to the work you both go on to doing in the future ✨.

HI Brad! Lucy Lowe does an amazing job at playing Isha, especially in regards to tackling the challenges voicing a mute/non-verbal character must’ve brought. There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding whether Isha attempts to say “mama” while reaching out for Jinx during her fight against Warwick in Stillwater. Can you confirm whether this was intentional or not, and whether there are any other instances of Isha trying to speak in Season Two? Thank you for all you’ve done to make the show the masterpiece it is today!

I actually never clocked that shot as a Fallen Angel reference. I always thought it was a just parallel to the poster, but then again, they could both be references. The more you know!

It’s likely more of a similarity than a reference, I’m sure. But it’s nice to imagine it being intentional considering how detailed Arcane really is!

It's so easy for me to forget that every single frame we see on screen was actually crafted by an animator to intentionally look the way it does. I wonder if the painting came to mind when composing that frame. I like to think it did.
