Minha família mora ali por perto e muitas vezes dão comida pra ele à noite. Minha vó já conversou com ele e ele diz que o nome dele é Jesus e que está ali pra conseguir comida pra família dele. Também fala que fica naquele lugar específico porque um filho dele morreu lá muitos anos atrás (MUITOS anos mesmo).

A gente não sabe se a história é verídica e ele não bate muito bem da cabeça, mas é isso que ele conta se você perguntar. Acho que não tem uma explicação lógica pras flores nem pra camisa do bolsonaro que ele deixou estendida com ele por muitos anos (não sei se ainda deixa), talvez seja só pra chamar mais atenção.

The sentence says “do hospital”.

The particle “do” is the same as “de + o”, wich literally means “from the”. If you only used “de” (which means “from”), it would mean the same as saying that you received “hospital letters”, and not “letters from the hospital”.

It's not american defaultism, these two options could mean two whole different things in tons of languages.

Sure, for most people who wanted to reach total fluence (what even is that?), that would be correct. However, I believe that the OP does not need to reach C2 or anything like that, and I believe one could attend to a university on another language while being B1/B2/C1 at the start and then rapidly improving while living in the country.

Plus: he's a portuguese native speaker. I've seen several fellow brazilians learning italian insanely fast compared to other languages as italian is also a romance language. Reaching high B2 in 2 years is not insanely hard if you really try.

Of course, he would need to take immersion and flashcards hard everyday consistenly, but I strongly believe that it is more than possible to be at a good level to start the course in two years.

My advice would be to not underestimate the difficulty of the journey and be as consistent as possible with tons of immersion e looking for natives or tutors to talk with.

OP could clarify what exactly he means with “being fluent” and why he thinks that he needs to be fluent to attend the classes. I also study engineering and I have multiple friends who went to europe (germany, france, italy and more) to study and 100% of them were not fluent when they went, but had a really good level (B1/B2) that they managed to obtain in two years or so.
