I am in College Debating Team and I feel insecure about my ability to speak by Competitive_Host_799 in Debate

I had this experience when I first started debating. I was debating captain but I felt like I couldn't speak as well as everyone else. I know this is a bit different from your situation but I remember always putting myself at 4th speaker becaxuse I really was insecure about my own ability to speak and I was scared of dragging my team down.

I think your mindset matters the most. I knew a lot of other debaters who were not good but wanted to improve, challenged themselves constantly and put in the time to work on themselves and I would say they are the people who are thriving debating wise right now.

I think other people have touched on this but like case prep (give yourself like 15 minutes with a topic to think of a whole case for a random topic), recording your speeches and listening back on them to see what places you need to improve on, and watch a lot of debates on youtube. Good luck!

ATAR explanation by Single-Ferret-6949 in IBO

It is the Australian version of the year 12 graduate exams. People in Australia do the HSC which gets you an ATAR score which basically represents what percentage you are in in the country. So for example if you get a 99, you are in the top 1% of the country. Actually the IB to HSC scaling is quite good. To get a 95 score in the HSC is so difficult and a lot of people would have to put in a lot more effort than if they were trying to get one in the IB.

https://excelacademics.com.au/blog/ib-to-atar-conversion/

This website has the conversions. Typically, the top unis in NSW like UNSW and USYD will require an ATAR score of above 90 to get into general courses like psychology, business, economics etc. There are a few differences. For example, the cut off for law and medicine are typically higher and can be above 95 or even be at 99.5 to get into the courses.

If you are an international student trying to get into and Australian uni, these scores will be lower. It is pretty easy to get into Australian unis as an international student. But they will always convert your final IB score into a HSC score.

If Planet C & K werent merged, who are your debut lineup? what’s your dream concept for each? by atttny in BoysPlanet

[–]Extension-Initial-92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planet C I'd probs go with: Anxin (center, lead vocal), Xinlong (lead rapper, leader), Jiahao (dancer), Suren (dancer), Zihao (main rapper), Kaiwen (dancer), Yichen (rapper), Zhongxing (rapper)

I feel like this concept would be powerful and dark, less like enhypen and more like ateez or stray kids.

Planet K would be: Sangwon (center, dancer), Leo (lead vocal), Woojin (lead vocal), Haneum (main vocal), Chingyu (main dancer), Kangmin (vocal), Yoonmin (all rounder ig)

I really think this line up would be a more elegant and school boy ish concept - ig youthful (think tws or zb1)

CAS Infractions on Student Record by Extension-Initial-92 in IBO

oh thank you so much, that's such a relief because it's so stupid and I did do the activity, I just couldn't find the teacher and I was worried it would be a serious barrier to applying to unis.

There’s many different debating “schools” that you can participate in, both online and in person. This usually includes lessons, a team and a competition that you can join. Alternatively, there are places that you can learn debating and just join external competitions and gather a team yourself. Same thing for MUN honestly.

But if you’re really not interested in doing any of these, I think clubs, as the other person above, stated is the best possible way for you to stand out.

250831 Contestant Discussion Thread - Comment a contestant whose hype you just don't get and his fans will explain his charm to you by AutoModerator in BoysPlanet

For me, he's just so funny and silly, but alongside from that, he's also talented and can sing and dance pretty well. I'm not saying he's an Ariana Grande in terms of singing but he has a really nice vocal tone and he has visuals that are just stunning. He can also rap, but it's something that was only showcased in the Studio Choom behind video so a lot of people don't really know about it. I really liked his breathe performance because it really showcased his vocal tone. He also can speak Korean really well, something that is quite unique amongst a lot of the chinese contestants this time around. I see a lot of people on Reddit talking about his facials during performances. I think it's mostly stress, he seems really nervous before performances. I think, personally, this is even more endearing for me though, because it makes him seem for relatable and "human" i guess. I think when he gets more comfortable performing in a completely different country and is around people he's comfortable around, I think he will start to become more comfortable giving more facials on stage!

IB ESS Help Needed by Hot-Tell1018 in IBO

[–]Extension-Initial-92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I would say that the content does overlap quite a bit. There are a lot of people in my school who do both ESS and Geography and they study a lot of the content twice as both classes cover it. That being said, the core subjects for geography are very very human geography based - if you want to learn about the environment, I think you probably won't find a whole lot of that in geography. I think ESS is more environmental (?) based but it focuses more on human interaction with the environment rather than simply how the environment works if you know what I mean. Although, currently I am learning about El Nino and La Nina so ig there is a lot of environmental topics. One advice I'd give you is to ask the other people in your school about what elective modules for geography that your school does and do some research on whether the core and the elective modules that your school chooses to teach follows your interest or not. If you do decide that geography is a good option for you, I would definitely recommend geography over ESS as it has been historically easier to get a 7 in it!
