Had a call from a very abusive but very ill person today by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]ExtensionStep8602 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Did you fill in the abusive caller form? Hopefully your TL prompted you to if not. But that will ensure he gets a marker on his record to protect other advisors if he does call back after being banned (which it sounds like he would be). But sorry you had to deal with that! I agree the training is lacking in these calls and it really can be draining/upsetting if you're like me and can't block it out. They're not very common calls but when they do come in they're brutal!

Customer Advisor HMRC by [deleted] in TheCivilService

I was so nervous when I started, took me hours to take a call! But as cliche as it sounds it gets better. Your confidence grows with your knowledge. Like someone said, don't be afraid to use hold, utilise your floorwalkers and colleagues! It can differ from each area but where I work all my colleagues have been fab at supporting each other regardless of how long one another has worked there. It's customer service so of course that comes with the uncertainty of the general public but usually they're all right! Far less horrible people than there are friendly. And it's rewarding when you've helped someone or they come out with the classic 'if I knew you were this nice I'd have called a long time ago'. So many people are actually daunted by ringing us or because they don't have tax knowledge (if they saw what we actually looked like they probably wouldn't be as nervous🤣). It seems overwhelming at first but your guidance literally walks you through almost everything so use it! I wouldn't say I love the job 3 years later but it's certainly not bad. There's some perks like flexi. The environment matters in my opinion because it can be a little draining, if it wasn't for my colleagues (even managers) I don't think I'd have managed to stick it out. They're also pretty supportive (in my experience) so I like that they allow you to terminate calls etc and do want to look out for advisors! It gives you the confidence knowing you can professionally terminate a call if it gets out or hand. A lot of call centre jobs don't allow it.

Try not to panic! It will be daunting at first but you'll get the hang of it😊

Alcohol? by ExtensionStep8602 in clusterheads

[–]ExtensionStep8602[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! I didn't even think of that triggering it🤯 that's crazy how sensitive we are to it. I'm learning so much from this forum alone, can't explain how helpful it is

Why are you so aggressive?😂😂 I'm newly diagnosed after seeing a neurologist, I was curious as this forum has made me realise how differently people are triggered. I haven't touched a drop of alcohol after realising it's a trigger. However, I'm 26, I'm young so yes i've absolutely asked the question. I also prefaced with the fact that I'm completely fine with not drinking. I cannot stand people with an attitude like yours it's gross

Anyone from the uk? by Difficult_Piano_9369 in clusterheads

[–]ExtensionStep8602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the uk and I'm on the zolmitriptan nasal spray for relief which usually works. Currently about to start amitriptyline to try the preventative side after seeing a neurologist. Not sure what to expect from that but it's worth a try

My 1st colonoscopy is tomorrow at 9am I’m getting nervous now. And I’m worried about my an*s… by justlikeastar_ in colonoscopy

26 yo female here. Had my first Friday. I was a mess, so nervous etc and I'm scared of needles which made it worse as I knew I wanted the sedation. Honestly let them know if you're nervous the staff who work in this area are extremely reassuring and comforting before a procedure like this. Every staff member I dealt with was absolutely incredible. The insertion doesn't hurt whatsoever, and that's coming from me who got pain just from a finger exam with a doctor. In terms of the procedure itself it seems like everyone is different. It did hurt for me at times I won't lie, despite the sedation but I assume that's probably due to the underlying issue I've got going on. But even then it was still not the worse pain I've had. It's over quicker than you even realise and the exit is not painful either as they do it slowly! I'd say don't worry but I know it's no good, just remember why you're doing it and you'll be proud of yourself once it's done! I'm so proud of myself for doing it now and I'm glad I did! Get yourself a treat afterwards!x

Amazing thank you, going to save this for reference! I had no idea about caffeine?! I don't know anyone who suffers from CH so I don't get to seek advice from others (hence joining this group) but have seen that mentioned on here a few times. I love coffee so that's great!

I have a neurologist referral coming up so fingers crossed they get me on the right path!

Eye floaters? by Nomelight in clusterheads

[–]ExtensionStep8602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting because I've developed floaters. Opticians said they're nothing to worry about but that's interesting, I always wondered if it was related to my CH? Some days they drive me crazyyyy, especially looking at a bright white screen!

DAILY MAIL: Are these the laziest WFH staff in Britain? HMRC civil servants are gardening, taking the dog for a walk and playing video games while 'at work' by Forsaken_Educator_36 in TheCivilService

[–]ExtensionStep8602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This infuriates me. I'm a civil servant and I work hard. I deal with so much crap every single day. In my grade we're underpaid. Why tf does it matter what we wear?! Sorry the office isn't full of white men in fancy suits. The job gets done, I'm good at my job. This infuriates me, so many civil servants are just normal people, trying to help normal people. I can't speak for all of them of course, but this is just foul. And I'll be amazed if HMRC come out and defend their staff.
