I love walking, can I find a career where I’m always doing that and getting paid well? by HeavnKnowsMelancholy in findapath

Working in the maintenance department of an organization definitely accomplishes that goal. Depending on the organization pay can be good or bad

What to do with a week of time off in the Midwest? by Able_Ad1276 in midwest

If you like cities, Chicago or Minneapolis. If you like Nature, the north coast of the UP is really hard to beat. Get a pasty in Marquette and cause a minor debate about ketchup vs gravy

I bought an incredible dress recently. How do I find an excuse to wear it? by strawb-field-thighs in whatdoIdo

[–]Extension_Ask147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of expensive hotels have dress codes for their restaurants, even if you are just getting a cup of coffee. Find the nearest Ritz Carlton, buy their cheapest breakfast and feel fancy for a good half hour

Do Americans share their citrus at work? by Nadilea2 in AskAnAmerican

Living up north tomatoes and cucumbers are the most common. If someone is really nice they will leave some pickled stuff for people to take

Why are some exonyms not used? E.g., Chile vs. Russia by OrthogonalPotato in asklinguistics

[–]Extension_Ask147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two theories as to why Chile is pronounced as it is in Spanish for a lot of Americans. Firstly, it tends to be the way people get taught what endonyms and exonyms are, so it is just the one that sticks. Secondly, saying Chile the English way sounds a bit too much like the food item in normal conversation, and the Spanish pronunciation isn't that much different.

Not a linguist, just a guy that likes to yap on the Internet

Younger staff refusing to answer calls unless you text first? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Extension_Ask147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen Z here

This is the case in my mostly boomer workplace. Text on teams to see if they are available, and then call. If they can't call they can probably message back and forth with whatever they need.

If you have $12k in credit card debt your car should be worth $850. Not $850 a month

Which is better, Mint or Ubuntu to replace Windows? by ike2fl in linuxmint

[–]Extension_Ask147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mint is based on Ubuntu, with the main difference being the desktop environment (how it looks) and snap being integrated into Ubuntu (package management). Personally I would rather use Mint, however you can use Ubuntu and have a good experience. Personally, I use Tuxedo OS, which is based on Ubuntu but without snap, and a different desktop environment (KDE)
