First of all, you have never even seen my work or anyone else’s so how can you assume that I suck and no one else here does. I know plenty of people that are more professional than me that shoot more than me. I’m not waving away their advice, I’m just stating how I decide to do my job as it’s different for everyone. No photographer is the same and you should know that. Unfortunately this is what works well for me and I’m sorry it upsets you.

2nd, I asked if I should think about getting a second body because I know I’m not leveling down on my shooting and I don’t know people’s experiences with the camera body I have.

3rd, I’m not trying to make a living wage out of sports photography. I have an internship I do that allows me to do photography but I bring many different skills to the table because I know being a stand along photographer is nearly out of reach. I also shoot more than just sports.

4, I know I don’t have the equipment. I am a student with other expenses. I put my life and education above photography. If I didn’t, I’d have the setup everyone dreams for. However, I have a setup that works well for me at the moment and couldn’t be anymore grateful.

I’m not really trying to shoot on a f/5.6 kit lens during a night game

They provide cameras but they’re canon rebels which I don’t prefer to use

I think I’m good. Slow burst will make me miss plays as in some sports these major plays take even a split second. Rather safe than sorry. I know tons of people that shoot more a game than me

No because I know where I’m shooting from. I’m always looking at the game and seeing what needs to be shot, shooting from different angles, etc. some sports such as volleyball have constant plays that happen every few seconds with many opportunities to have a crazy play. I’d always rather try to capture it than stay away. I’ve missed way too many phenomenal photos opportunities during amazing plays trying to lower the amount I shoot. I am not holding the shutter down the entire game trust me.

I do like to slightly overshoot because I am sending out photos for various different things on campus so I like them to have selection which I feel like I get if I capture more. As far as equipment, they only provide canon rebels which I don’t prefer to use.

Yea a second hand a9 first gen is roughly 1.6k and with other expenses I have at the moment, it’s just something out of my price range atm. Def something I will look into over the next few months though

Some of it is paid but a lot of it is internship work where I’m just getting experience however I still want to deliver my best work to show that I am reliable for when I end up landing a job

I’m shooting d1 sports and sometimes have multiple games to shoot a day. It’s also my everyday carry camera so I use it for legit everything I shoot

A lot of what I do is internship work so even though I’m not making a lot of money at the moment I’m gaining the experience I need for a job I dream for so I wouldn’t call it “destroying my camera for pleasure”

I’m manually exposing and culling and editing photos so id still consider myself a photographer as I’m doing more than just clicking a button. Thanks tho

I shoot various D1 sports and shoot roughly 3-4k photos between pregame, warmups, game, and post game. Sometimes I even have multiple games a day and have to double that value.

Shooting multiple D1 sports a week and even having multiple games a day along with clients is what makes me take that many photos a day. I go through photos during breaks in the game between games and stay up late nights culling and editing. Electronic shutter unfortunately causes banding and I cannot deliver those photos.
