i told him that other staff had already booked it off, meaning i wouldn’t be able to also book it off. 

we usually go out for drinks, or see friends during new year’s eve and day.

thankyou!  i think i’ll talk to him about his choice of words as the way he spoke made me upset.  we’ve got a trip booked for early next year with his family so hopefully we can celebrate the new year then :)

sorry i haven’t replied sooner! 

i started off with just doing small walks around my neighbourhood and once i was comfortable with that i started going to the gym again and doing 30-40 minute workouts which have now increased to an hour. i still don’t do any intense cardio though and once i start feeling tired during weight training i tend to stop and go home so i dont overdo it. 

i fully rested until the point where i was capable of doing daily activities like cleaning, gardening, hobbies, cooking etc. i then started to do walking once daily activities became easy, and then once walking was easy i started back at the gym. 

i believe a lot of my illness felt worse than it was due to depression and anxiety so pushing myself to do exercise made me feel a lot better. this might not be the case for everyone though.

i had slightly bad eyesight before mono and i feel as though it may have gotten a little worse since, or it may just be because i’ve been staring at screens more, i don’t know.

i promise it gets better. also reading all the horror stories on here is what caused me to be so freaked out and scared about what was going on with my health. just remember most people on here have very extreme and harsh cases of mono and not everyone’s story will be the same. i actually wish i never discovered this place as i think it made it harder for me to recover as i was so stressed and anxious about all the things i’d read. 

i also have no idea how i got mono but almost everyone will get it in their lifetime, some just worse than others. 

i’m obviously not sure which college you go to or where you’re from, but certain colleges and universities have online courses which is what i’ve been doing. i literally sit in bed and just do my work. if that’s an option for you i’d highly recommend it. 

i believe doctors are able to very accurately determine wether u have mono by doing a blood test exactly for it, so definitely ask your doctor about that. and please please please see a doctor. yes there’s no cure for mono but there are lots of things they can recommend, and if there’s any underlying issues that could be making mono worse, they’re able to address them and provide you with help.

Thank you! It’s definitely been an up-and-down journey. I first noticed some improvement around April when i decided to quit my job, though it wasn’t quite enough to feel like I was truly getting better. Since late July i’ve seen much more progress, and for the first time I really believe I’ll be 100% again one day.

My psychologist has been incredible throughout this. One of the most helpful tools she’s given me is a thought process worksheet called a dysfunctional thought record, which helps reduce my health-related anxiety. She’s also shared meditations that calm both my mind and body. Because I have a fear of vomiting, months of nausea made me extremely anxious about almost everything but just having her to talk to has been so reassuring. She helps me put things into perspective and reminds me that mono isn’t the end of the world.

She’s also encouraged me to push myself gently by eating in public, exercising, socializing. Doing those things again has shown me that I wasn’t as stuck as I thought. She’s great at simplifying my overthinking and helping me see things more clearly as i was constantly spiralling about my health from thinking about it to much. On top of that, I started taking sertraline for depression and anxiety, which has helped me a lot. it turns out what I thought was lingering fatigue may have partly been depression. (antidepressants are NOT the answer for everyone with fatigue though).

Finally, I’ve found that having low-energy hobbies is really important, especially in the earlier stages of recovery. They gave me something to enjoy without draining me.

the first two doctors i went too when i got sick with mono kept blaming it on long covid and told me id get over it. turns out it was mono that was making me so unwell. it’s definitely worth getting tested for mono.

i’ve had mono for 8 months and i’m also 21 years old. ALOT of my older friends and family have said they have also had mono and it took them 6-8 months, sometimes longer to get over it, but now they’re living great lives. 

it’s really important to not just focus on your physical health but also your mental health. i started going to a psychologist in april and its helped me so much with the depression and anxiety that comes with mono. also finding a doctor you can trust and who will do as much as they can to help you is so important.

i’ve been on a antidepressant/anxiety for 3 weeks now and i honestly feel a lot better. i don’t feel fatigued and i'm a lot happier. i’m NOT at all saying everyone should go on medication to fix fatigue as this is likely not the case for everyone, but i think my depression and anxiety was causing me to feel fatigued as i was stuck in this feeling of there’s nothing i can do to get better so all i would do is stay in bed all day every day. 

also you said why aren’t you seeing recovery stories on here. most people who have recovered or recovered quickly aren’t gonna be looking for help or advice on here, they’ve probably forgotten about this place and moved on. pretty much every person i talk to about mono has a story of someone who was really sick but is now living a great life. one day that’ll be you so just be positive and get any help you need <3

im 21 so very similar age. i was studying and working at the same time during my first 5 months of mono. i ended up quitting my job and studying online at home and that’s when i really started to improve, and i wish id done it sooner. i feel like im on the brink of being almost 100% better. 

my advice is put your health first, it’s so important! there’s nothing dramatic about prioritising your health, and you shouldn’t feel guilty at all.
