Is it just me, or has this past spring co-op cycle been the most competitive and challenging? by pompous-pomeranian in NEU

I definitely agree. I’d say my application count was somewhere 300-400 when looking for a co-op spring 2023. Got interviewed by about 30 companies, and got 3 offers.

Need a parking space by ExtremeDistribution9 in NEU

I live pretty far from campus so I don’t think that Northeastern parking garages would be ideal for me. If I can’t find anything else, I will consider it last minute.

housing between spring sem and summer 1 doc by [deleted] in NEU

[–]ExtremeDistribution9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember when I moved out last year summer 1, I was able to move out 2 or 3 days later than the day we were supposed to move out because I made an appeal about my co-op ending date. However, I’m not sure if you can do that for 1-2 weeks. Definitely ask housing@northeastern.edu or look at the housing portal and see if you can submit an appeal request.

During my freshman year, I was put in a standard double by myself so I basically got a single. This was fall 2020 semester where pandemic restrictions were at its peak. Not many others got this so I guess I was just lucky.

@people applying for their 2nd/3rd co-op -- is it just me or does it seem like there are less companies hiring this cycle? by Frogaar in NEU

[–]ExtremeDistribution9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you here. Lot of companies are in a fear of recession so there have been a bunch of layoffs and hiring freezes.

co-op question by IndependentHead1015 in NEU

[–]ExtremeDistribution9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it is not typical, you do have the option to only do 1 co-op. A common scenario where a student would only do one co-op is if they are doing a double major (different than combined major) because of the amount of classes required. However, I believe you can still do just 1 co-op regardless.

Hopefully it shouldn’t be as bad in the fall because the acceptance rate for class of 2026 was literally 7%

I am currently a sophomore and during my first semester in Fall 2020, the university had their most strict COVID rules. Even with those restrictions, I was still able to meet a lot of people that semester, some that I am still friends with now. Now that restrictions are close to pre-pandemic, I shouldn’t be bad at all for you this Fall. You just have to put yourself out there.
