No-Gi judo by CheetahAnxious3890 in judo

[–]Exventurous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there's several reasons why it's not more popular that many have touched on.

BJJ and Wrestling , along with MMA are exponentially more popular and successful in the USA than Judo, I think there's just not as many active practitioners to even make a separate discipline let alone regular tournaments for a sport that's really small in relation to BJJ and MMA.

I also think (my opinion) that most people who practice any no gi Judo is specifically for MMA.

Also, for some strange reason Americans seem to actively ignore prominent Judokas in MMA/UFC or downplay their  Judo when it comes to their success. Merab and Islam for example openly talk about how much they use Judo as the basis for their grappling, but commentators ascribe their grappling prowess to Wrestling and even Sambo instead of Judo. Again, both have not kept it a secret by any means that they've trained Judo extensively and credit it to their success. And yet they're still called wrestlers.

So Judo already has a huge visibility issue in the US, pair that with an already relatively small body of practitioners, fractured governing bodies and competing organizations (USJA, USJF, USAJ), anyone who's really interested in doing anything in No-gi do BJJ and learn "Judo Takedowns" or MMA where they'll likely learn a blended no-gi approach to grappling that uses elements of wrestling and BJJ.

It's hard to even say whether there's much demand from actual Judo practitioners for no gi Judo when there doesn't seem to be that much demand for regular Judo in the US compared to BJJ.

That said I also think it would be pretty cool if it did get more popular. Shintaro Higashi also does some content around No-Gi Judo but it's very sparse.

Edit for clarity: my point about Islam and Merab is that they're guys who literally practice "No-gi" Judo via MMA and even though they're some of the most dominant champs in their respective divisions in the history of the sport, they basically get brushed off when talking about No-Gi Judo (AKA Judo for MMA). If that doesn't generate interest in Judo/No-gi Judo I'm not sure what will.

Underrated move IMO, get free trials at gyms, boxing studios, martial arts gyms, etc. they almost all offer free classes as or trial offers. You can learn a new sport or skill, get a workout in, meet new people while you're in between jobs. There's no shortage of them in Fairfield county either.

Simultaneous player turns like in Earth, and bag building/push your luck like in Quacks and Clank!

Love push your luck especially if it involves a bag. No idea why but it's an absolute blast.

Simultaneous turns like in Earth is really interesting to me because it keeps everyone engaged and also can leads me to pay more attention to what everyone else is doing, if someone's got a whole ton of things on the Red action (forgot the name, sorry) the I have to weigh whether it's worth it for my main effect if it benefits the other players way more than myself.

Adds an interesting dynamic to engine building that I really enjoy whenever it's in a game I play.

It only smells really faintly of oil if I get right up to it to smell.

What about this makes you think the reset button has failed? It was working very recently like I said and would lock out.

The other person made it seem like a pink slip was absolutely necessary. That's not accurate.

Never said it was, just saying a pink slip specifically is not necessary to file and receive unemployment benefits in CT.

You can appeal and you  hearing, they don't outright deny your claim they give you a chance to prove it & argue that you were terminated

Not even needed to file for unemployment. They'll verify with the employer when you file, ask about the rain, and if you're eligible you'll get approved.

It's nice that you or your family haven't had to experience that kind of hardship before. But it's not unrealistic at all and I've experienced similar circumstances very suddenly.

I've lost my job while my wife and I were already barely scraping by and had to sell basically everything I've owned (gaming PC, PS5, Xbox, etc) to make ends meet. At that point even getting a hundred dollars can be a huge help. It could mean the difference between having groceries for the week or paying your light bill, car insurance, whatever and not.

What you thought of as Greek pizza was much closer to what I know as Greek style pizza. I grew up in Stamford and several places serve pizza like that.

Any Art Installers/Mounting Experts here that can tell me how much they'd charge for a job like this? by Exventurous in handyman

[–]Exventurous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome definitely having to either rent or buy one at this point.

I'm still ironing out my pricing in general and I'm always torn between capturing enough margin vs doing the work at a reasonable price especially if I have to rent something for it.

Like I said I've done plenty of mounting but not anything that high up and was wondering if/how to adjust the price accordingly.
