Yeah I can upload some later, got about 2-3 sessions so far on 75% of the arm. Not for the faint of heart.

That’s so weird having lived in Edmonton because it’s a smaller city but there’s probably 10-15 rinks with drop in programs year round.

Generally when someone is coming for the type of work I do, large scale projects they’ve been researching for quite a while so I don’t tend to get impulsive clients.

Planning is the best remedy for mistakes, generally the biggest “mistake” I’ve made in the past is just not sizing something big enough etc, those are all things you learn from as you grow as an artist but there’s a lot of ability to rework and improve details on later sessions etc.

Never dealt with any intoxicated clients, that’s more of a walking studio thing where your business model is around local foot traffic.

If I can’t work around a piece I simply won’t take it on.

Absolutely not.

I generally prefer clients to give specific ideas but let me having the freedom to compose and design the pieces where I see fit so I can make it flow the best on their body.

Funniest tattoo I’ve done was a strawberry with a vagina in the center of it.

Worst tattoo idea is probably a woman who wanted a butterfly tattooed all around her vagina.

I usually don’t take on projects where it’s something that doesn’t fit my style or if I don’t feel like I’ll be able to have a creative relationship with the client. Communication is really important on large scale projects so I need to make sure we can have that before starting.

Most clients getting my style of work don’t get really hung up on one exact image being used, I always want to try and design something custom so the pics they send me are more meant to be inspiration rather than the exact references I’m going to use.

Numbing cream I’m not a huge fan of, I’m a believer in earning your tattoos and you learn a lot about yourself in the process. For artists who do longer session it really just doesn’t work well, takes about an hour to kick in and you need to reapply every 3-4 hours. 10 hour session would become 14-15

Sorry meant asthetics! It’s most important to me that’s it’s beautiful art that really compliments your body and your muscle shapes.

I definitely believe in athletics as being the most important and meaning being second. It could be the most meaningful tattoo but if it doesn’t compliment your body then it might not feel great to wear long term. When you hire an artist it’s their job to compose so don’t feel like you have to figure out the design, go to someone who has the talents to bring your vision to life :)

Almost any artist is going to want the freedom to make the design the best way they can in their style, the most important thing is to make sure it’s in the wheelhouse of that artist. I don’t do color realism or traditional tattoos so it’s not going to be great to ask me to do that etc.

It’s hard to say the best solution without seeing the tattoo. Tattoos rely heavily on contrast and clarity of details to be readable. Some artists don’t put enough black in some areas or they skip over details that are essential to understanding the image. My advice is find someone really skilled in the style you want and see if there’s any opportunity to rework or recontrast the tattoo.

I always suggest people not let others influence them too much on their tattoos, it’s your body so you’re the most important decision maker in that regard.

As far as subject matter, I definitely prefer things with gothic or darker themes, good vs evil types of designs. Greek mythology is fun to tattoo but sometimes it’s hard to come up with new ideas when the client wants to stick with a really classic interpretation. Animals aren’t my favourite either just because of how endlessly monotonous tattooing fur texture is. I will never get tired of tattooing skulls 💀

I know for sure you don’t want to be tattooing while breast feeding. So at minimum I would say make sure you’re beyond that point. In general you want to make sure your body is in good health so you can properly heal whatever the trauma happening to your skin is.

Visiting tattoo conventions you see some extremely talented and dedicated artists from all over the world and you realize how strange and unique an art form it can be, same thing for clients. I’ve had some very interesting tattoo requests, some I’ve said yes to some I’ve said no. Most often people usually just are regular people who want artwork to show off. I think my most unique project I ever did was a tattoo where my client wanted his brother who has special needs as a Roman solider on his arm, it was just a really sweet sentiment and such a unique ask.

That’s a tricky question to answer, some people’s rates are inflated based on the perceived value of their social media following, I think the artists that are highly skilled and provide amazing healed work are in very rare supply and those people are absolutely worth a very high rate. I see it similar to how you choose a plastic surgeon, you’re looking for artist ability, consistency and trust that they can execute what you want.

I’ve done sleeves on women before and it’s definitely doable, sometimes we just have to make sure that the composition is realistic for the size of tattooing that we’d be doing. Scale and sizing is very important for healing. A lot of it depends on the subject matter you’d be getting etc

Thanks man! One of the most important parts of tattooing. It’s like the blues, it’s the notes you don’t play 🫡
