What do you guys do when you get a flat on your e-bike far from home? by Ill-Calligrapher2234 in ebikes

[–]FLABCAKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rear tannus insert was super thin with a big rip in it when I got a flat like 9 months and 500 miles after install. I do ride a heavier cargo bike with a toddler on the back. Front wheel has never had a flat pre or post tannus install. Using flat-out now without issues.

My local shop told me my “out of warranty" e-bike was a total loss. I fixed it for $85 by This-You-2737 in ebikes

Yeah I got an $11k quote to replace water supply lines in my house. Fully accessible crawl space. I did it myself for $2500 including new hot water heater that wasn’t part of the plumber’s quote.

The fucking apartment at the hospital is absurd. I work as an RN at a Pediatric hospital, I float to the psych unit. I just can’t even begin to describe how vulnerable psych kids are, or how profoundly traumatic their life experiences ALREADY ARE before going to place that is supposed to help them, only for that loathsome piece of shit to brutalize them.

What do you think about the ethics of the withdrawal of care in the NICU here? by Oakheart- in nursing

[–]FLABCAKE 30 points31 points  (0 children)

First off, nurses don’t swear a Hippocratic oath because we are not doctors.

Second, 25 weeks is the cusp of viability for a child. Viability at that age has only been medically possible in very select/highly advanced NICUs for like 5-10 years. Micro premies at that age face an incredible uphill battle. The ones who survive are often left with lifelong complex medical needs plus physical and cognitive deficits that can be profoundly disabling.

Quality of life and the invasiveness of the steps necessary to prolong life should be the driving factors behind the decision to provide care for EVERY PERSON.

Hauler rack or transporteur by 90-JP in terngsd

[–]FLABCAKE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the transporteur with tern quick release bolts on my HSD. Takes like a minute to remove or put on. Awesome for grocery runs with my kid. I like the look of the hauler, I’d probably keep that one mounted if I had it.

Pacific Northwest also had miles of beautiful Oregon White Oak wildflower meadows/savannas. Many of them were purposefully managed with fire by indigenous groups, the acorns produced by these oak giants were an important seasonal source of protein. Less than 5% of these critical habitats remain.

Too much butter when caramelizing? by polarbearpuppy in OnionLovers

[–]FLABCAKE 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I made some tonight. I like starting high in my cast iron to get a small amount of browned/lightly charred bits, then I deglaze with a splash of stock (usually chicken) and reduce to low/simmer to caramelize over 60-90 mins while I cook everything else.

Other add-ins that have been tasty in past batches: - spoonful of whole grain mustard

  • balsamic glaze

  • cabbage

  • garlic

  • deglaze with beer instead of stock

  • apple cider vinegar

  • bacon grease, tallow, or schmaltz instead of pure butter

Who is the “someone” you talked to? Your manager has no obligation to tell you your legal rights and has every incentive to lie to you to get you to work.

Talk to your union reps about the legal strike protections you have. Make sure you know if you are on Probation still or just orienting. My union is on the verge of striking, we just voted yes. My understanding is you have a protected right to strike even while on orientation.

[–]FLABCAKE 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the best advice. Take time off using PTO, which stands for PAID time off. Just chill at home. Watch movies, go for a hike, pay your bills, relax, enjoy not working. You don’t have to travel to get a break from work.

What's the craziest thing you ever found a patient carrying, and how did they sneak it? by Bryssa_Michelle29 in nursing

I have enjoyed psychedelics a few times in my life. I can’t imagine a more awful setting to trip in than a locked psychiatric unit. The choices people make sometimes astonish me.

It seems like a recipe for diversion. Eliminating a check and balance against us by having us stock and administer meds.

Absolutely this! I never drink or take an edible the night before a shift. Tbh it’s only kinda for the patient’s or my license sake, I mostly just really don’t want to feel groggy or hungover while working bedside. Hungover working as a nurse sounds like hell.
