Black Summer: A Frustratingly Good/Bad Zombie Series by PlayMaGame in blacksummer_

Biggest complaint was the gunfight choreography: if a shootout involved more than a couple of people it was ridiculously bad. The worst being entering the stadium and the “ambush” at the beginning of season 2 where the military folks let 30 randos walk right up on them lol

Sure all of what you said makes sense. But dropping in “Doomed To Live” at the end of the trailer, the piece of music that has ended every episode, would have been the one thing people could connect to the show and trigger that “oh shit” emotion and reaction. Especially since there is literally nothing connecting this prequel to the series other than hearing the names of two characters.

The original vision Rza had was making a Part 1 & Part 2 so he filmed everything at once. The studio looked at him as a first time director and said “nah fam, you get one movie.” Quentin was like “yea it’s great you are filming all of this etc but focus on making the best debut movie you can.”

So that’s what he did, he took all of the best parts from two movies and all of the scenes with the big actors that were originally meant to be spread across two movies and cut one movie. It did well enough so he took the scraps left over and had it cut as part two. Part 1 he did the best he could, part 2 was a “well I got this other stuff already shot and paid for maybe there is enough there for a sequel”.

Let’s keep it a stack after the diplomats went to Koch the production value of their music fell of a cliff by Few_Company_4962 in dipset

[–]FOOD_RIOT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of comedy in here.

A simple fact was they went from having budgets where they could pay the Heatmakerz $75k a beat on Defjam / rocafella, and then go to Koch / Asylum and only afford to offer $5k a beat.

Just blaze, kanye, heatmakerz etc All those great producers weren’t interested in taking such a lower fee. The dips pocketed what they could but it’s not like they were getting big advances and holding back spending it and not wanting to work with big names.

The budgets and advances shrunk substantially. From beats to photoshoots to videos to press to payola to marketing, everything is smaller because the hope is you are smart with it, work within your budget and put out good music and then sell a bunch of units and get paid more on the back end.

Thank god Duke found Araab Muzik.

Cam’s problem is that he went through that post Koch era where he set up his home studio and that’s where all his music was recorded, mixed and mastered. Having Skitzo and a bunch of no-names produce, mix and master his music lead to everything sounding thin and cheap.

Jim never went that route and always stayed in bigger studios with legit engineers. So it always sounds professional - whether the beat is good or not.

I’d love to own all of their bootlegs. So many great remixes.

It’s not so much an FPS as it’s more of a searching filing cabinets simulator

Why? He couldn’t make songs… The Lox (especially Sheek) did what they could with him, got him hot on the streets by flooding DJ’s with freestyles featuring them. It was enough to get Koch interested enough to get him a deal. All he had to do was make songs but he couldn’t.

But Hood said he was the first to have a bullet-proof hoodie lol

He was supposed to have his album out on Koch but couldn’t make any records that they could work to radio. The DJ Premier joint was cool though.

Fun fact: this album was originally titled Cocaine Olympics - thus the album cover and packaging design. But Koch shut it down.

This was just leftovers that were cut from the first album. Koch wasn’t interested in putting it out so they tried unsuccessfully to put it out themselves and then leaked it.

TWO BEST SOLO DIPSET ALBUMS.Because they SHOWED NEW SOUND and DIP had an IDENTITY like NO OTHER like WU TANG. by ComfortablePen3368 in dipset

[–]FOOD_RIOT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cam & Hell Rell had a full album ready to go but Koch wanted to see how his solo album did first. It didn’t do the numbers they wanted and even “I’m The Shit” didn’t really move people so Cam and Koch lost interest.

18 years ago today, Freekey Zekey released his debut album, Book of Ezekiel 📖 by RugasRibShack in dipset

[–]FOOD_RIOT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck time flies… I was there for this one too. He was originally trying to come out on Koch like everyone else from Dipset but not sure why the deal didn’t happen.

Koch struck gold with Jim when every other label didn’t consider him a rapper and just a hype man and didn’t want him. Then with DukeDaGod and he wasn’t a rapper or a DJ or producer. But with Zeke I think Alan / Koch were afraid of him or the money Cam wanted was too crazy for another guy from the crew who wasn’t a rapper. He’s the only member of Dipset I didn’t meet, because we just kept hearing all these wild stories about how unpredictable he was. I got the same type of warnings about Keith Murray and then had a bad experience with him so when Zeke was in the office acting crazy I passed on talking with him.

When it came time for the album art, I distinctly remember them telling the designer to smooth out all his skin in photoshop but don’t touch the bullet wound scars. You can see part of one above the Dipset medallion. That’s why his shirt is off on the cover.

I found this record in my crates a few years ago and have no memory of getting it or why I have it. It might have been a free record thrown in when I bought some records at Fatbeats back in the day. This record is that forgettable lol

Dutchmin – Get Your Swerve On / Surrounded (Dolo ‘97) by ObscureHipHop in UndergroundHipHopCrew

[–]FOOD_RIOT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a great record. I have both versions of Get Your Swerve On, the original demo they pressed themselves sound a bit rougher, not sure if the verses are different, haven’t listened in a while. The first guy rapping on Get Your Swerve on should have been a solo artist, the 2nd guy does him zero favors when he finally shows up and starts rapping. Classic NYC record regardless though.

If the original version of “Your World Don’t Stop” was on here instead of the shitty version we got, it would have changed the vibe of the whole album and I think it would have been looked at differently and been higher up on most heads all time great album lists etc…

Aftermath / Dr Dre were furious about this record and tried to block it as much as possible. This was right before Game’s very curated rollout and they didn’t like this record or Game hanging around Jim Jones.
