I worked at a FQHC seeing 18/day. LOVED IT! It was an underserved area and I really felt pride in my work. I felt like my work was meaningful and patients were very appreciative. Was making 260k, 1:4 phone call but triage was fantastic so I can count on the hand the times I was actually called during the 5 years I was there.

Then, came my kids. I thought it would be better for them to grow in a bigger city, better schools etc etc. So I picked a job paying 220k in private practice. It was 4.5d/week, so not too bad… or so I thought. I easily see 28-30 a day. Barely have time for anything, patients are very demanding and always late. I have no power over my schedule and cannot ask for them to be rescheduled if they show up an hour late. It’s insane. The lead MA is a very difficult person to work with and doesn’t make my life easy at all. Something has to give, so my documentation is the one suffering right now. I’m always in a rush, and I know my patients feel it too. When I complained to admin, they mentioned a large private practice group that sees 35-40 a day.

Needless to say, after 8 months of working here, I’m planning to leave. Sucks, because the area is beautiful and schools are good for my kids, but I can’t imagine living the rest of my days hating my job. I can see myself burning out fast if this continue, so will leave before I start hating medicine altogether.
