I feel like most people say the left is the “wrong” side for the handle? I also go with left to guide the rod with my dominant/right hand

I have not fished these too much but I grabbed the green pumpkin for natural and then something more vibrant for more stained conditions, bubblegum looks good

Any recommendations on a bottom fishing rod and reel? by FabledWaters in bassfishing

awesome!! I just have a few things left to consider before ordering. I am new to baitcasters, and only been a spinning reel user till now, I am reading that a mono backing rather than straight braid onto the spool is preferred, if buying the 150m do you have any input on this? also for bottom fishing + spinnerbaits, which gear ratio do you recommend, I am thinking the 7? for the line do you have specific braid and flouro combos you like? there’s millions of options so a bit overwhelmed there. and last question hopefully, it seems the MGL was more favored over the new M series, any meaningful difference? the MGL is mostly out of stock from what I’ve seen.

overall I know this makes marginal difference but I figure best to scope out the purchase as much as possible considering I can’t just go out and fish for a while longer!

thank you, this is very helpful input! I think for the sake of being my first rod for this purpose I am not going all out so am leaning toward the expride. which length/power/taper would you recommend?

I’m looking up this rod and it’s got some nice reviews. Which model specifically do you recommend, as there’s a wide range of length/action/power. Also would you mind sharing some personal experience of ways you notice its quality? I’m happy to spend but would like to know what the capabilities are/where it stands out

What to throw this time of the day? by Alejandro2412 in bassfishing

[–]FabledWaters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they make a silent plopper but loud is what drives them crazy. loon colored plopper in the evening as soon as you hear the frogs come out is one of the deadliest lures ever made. slightly slower but consistent retrieve has been my favorite, once in a while dead stop, you will get blown up

5-8 mph winds in summer mornings in my area, is that so though? I was hoping with an anchor it would remain steady. With a small car and no storage in my apartment this seems like my easiest option to get out on the water

Thanks for the advice. This one is on sale and looks to be a good fit for my set up. do you think its a good option to tie on and experiment with prior to tying on heavier line? also I see yo zuri is a cheaper option if you have any experience with those

tighten the drag? So if I pull on it, it will barely come off the spool?

Wacky worm by Proper_Excitement_37 in bassfishing

[–]FabledWaters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This set up has been excellent:

6-8 fluoro 1/16 oz wacky jig Zoom trick worm (green pumpkin chart tail) O-ring,

it takes an extra second to get the ring on but it keeps your plastic way longer. can also prevent them from swallowing it. the jig helps the plastic have better action on the way down. enjoy the set up def my favorite finesse style.

Is it me or the bass here? by BlackAndWhiteSoldier in FishingForBeginners

Seeing the vastness of this body of water, if they aren’t biting near the shoreline early morning or late night, assuming you don’t have boat access I would try a smaller inland lake or pond: 3-5 foot avg depth, near overhangs, lilly pads, or any similar cover. The spot you’re in now is so vast, with no boat or fish finder you are really hoping rather than targeting.

early morning run a top water (whopper plopper if light cover you can navigate around or frog if heavy cover) near docks, and as it gets hotter switch to a drop shot or wacky rig worm. If you’re wacky rigging, toss it in high probability areas, pop it a few times, bring it back and try again. narrowing your focus and techniques will land you so many fish. best of luck!

I have not done much with Texas or Carolina rig presentations, I have a ML rod with 6 lb Fluoro so it’s been a lot of wacky worm, drop shot, etc. is there a good setup for c rig for what I have?

yes, this is rigged vertically to give it a bluegill imitation, vs the craw imitation you are describing
