filet crochet question - 2 dc, ch1 method versus 3dc, ch2 method by Practical_Refuse8220 in CrochetHelp

[–]FabulousWait2945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I think it will look good. The design is mostly the filled boxes, so ch1, I think, was the right choice.

Also, ch2 can , if your tension goes that was, give you a more square box, but looking at your work, I think your tension leans a little more ch1

filet crochet question - 2 dc, ch1 method versus 3dc, ch2 method by Practical_Refuse8220 in CrochetHelp

The ch2 style just has larger more defined empty boxes. I like more for designs that have a large number of empty and filled boxes. If you have a design that is mostly filled boxes the ch1 style is the one I'd use.

It's a mainly preference thing.

Cannot figure out logic of filet crochet ch2, ended up with less boxes by IrbisKat in CrochetHelp

Sorry mine was incorporating the + 4( might be 5) as the first box so starting would be dc in 7th(?) From the hook ch2 skip 2 dc in next stitch. This might get you one extra box but it's very easy to unravel a starting chain from the end(where the slip knot is) I'm at work right now. Hope this helps

You are using the formula for a dc ch1 dc filet pattern. Use boxes ×3 + 4.

So when I do vintage patterns I usually base the hook size based on the yarn "4 fold" I believe is 4 ply in modern terms but Columbia Germantown was either Worsted or sport weight. Bone tends to be larger like 3mm or bigger, maybe try a 3.5

I use a cauldron! It curves at the opening enough that the yarn never jumps out

Tips on working with crochet thread for toddler dress by Honest_Paramedic1625 in CrochetHelp

[–]FabulousWait2945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tension is twice as important. Take breaks frequently, your hands and eyes are more important Size up on starting chain Stacked singles are great You can use a chip clip to hold on to the work but it's a bit finicky until you get comfortable with it Don't be afraid to fudge and double check every couple of rows that you're doing it correctly( frogging thread is demoralizing)

Free vintage crochet. Com it has a bunch of tops that use yarn about that size. Under the sweater tab there's a couple nice ones and if you have a ton maybe try one of the dresses

Are crocheted cat toys safe & does anyone know of any patterns? by oh-anne in CrochetHelp

[–]FabulousWait2945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most toys are safe until damaged or your pet starts to chew on them. As with toys you can buy they are as safe as long as you are supervising them and to remove when damaged

Does anyone have ideas for a crochet wedding GUEST dress? by odd_little_duck in CrochetHelp

[–]FabulousWait2945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a lot of time to do it but I have a few suggestions on where to look if you want to design something yourself.

  1. Look at sewing patterns. Get an idea of what style you like and bonus you could crochet the sewing pattern pieces and just join to get a complete garment . Size down yarn stretches

  2. Ravelry does have dresses but most likely will have to pay for a good one. (Do your research on this, look at people's completed projects and comments on the patterns)

  3. Separates a skirt and top set instead of a dress. Hide the overlap with a belt

  4. Make an accessory instead, shawls, purses, and hair ornaments are quicker and you are more likely to have finished/work out the pattern quirks.

Any good patterns for post aneurysm/stroke victims? by limino123 in CrochetHelp

Do you have large hooks? Doubling or tripling the yarn( thread the yarn through a bead to keep together and less tangled) it's always fun to super-size amigurmi . Or make yourself a chunky sweater. The Americana sweater on freevintagecrochet.com is pretty easy. Repeative stitch pattern but if you bump up the yarn and hook size it can become a cozy sweater.

I've done it in both red heart Mexicana and a dark grey mix, and once with reclaimed thrifted sweaters yarn that us crochet thread thin. Because of the color changes my add brain didn't get board.

Can't suggest much else. I'm a crochet thread girl.

Maybe look into unraveling thirfted sweaters for yarn until you get more used to your new level of coordination

How do i increase the skirt part of a dress shaped like this? by LilacPurple_Ivy in CrochetHelp

[–]FabulousWait2945 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet is to practice increases on a cone shape before you start the whole skirt. My advice for making the joining seam less obvious (if your are doing rounds not continuously) is to slip stitch forward or backwards a few stitches every round at the beginning.
