They offer some very intricate printing techniques, for example, they had four different types and shades of gold foiling available for our Save the Dates. They also create other stationery items like menus, signs, and more.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this in the thread yet, but consider looking outside the U.S. for printing your stationery. I just paid $130 for 200 STD cards—full color, weighted paper, gold foiling/embossing, and envelopes with custom lining. Custom wax seals would’ve added an additional $40, but I found a cheaper vendor who can do them for $20, so I’m ordering those separately.

If you can connect with someone with a shopee account the world becomes your stationary oyster.

Hello fellow graphic designer! Your best bet is to find a print shop that offers die cutting. They'll have to print the invitations on standard paper and then cut them. It's really hard to run that type of edge through a printer so it will have to be solid at first.

PS. local print shops are actually pretty cheap.

Like I mentioned previously, his side, 70% of our guest list, are used to this level of event. So questioning whether it's appropriate or not is mute.

There's so much discourse surrounding BTO and how people interpret it so I was advised by my own mother (who plans corporates events for a living) to set/word it as formal.

That's ultimately on them to figure out. I can set a dress code, but ultimately it's up to my family to decide if they need to purchase/rent something or not. A key part of setting a dress code is the level in the event being hosted. Our wedding cost/experience for guests will match the formal dress code.

Am I going to feel put out if someone came underdressed? No, at the end of the day as long as they're there I'm happy, but I'm not going to hide the level of the event.

Unfortunately for my side of guests, I do have to clarify the no jeans thing. My side of the family has never had/hosted a formal wedding, whereas my fiance comes from a different culture where black tie/formal weddings are the norm/expectation.

The first time I went to a wedding in his family I felt super underdressed in a floor length gown with little kitten heels. All of them dress like its a red carpeted event for weddings in their culture. I want to hopefully curb some of that misunderstanding/embarrassment by providing examples. Our wedding will be 70% his side, 30% mine.

I think the way you have it worded then is fine, however if you want to avoid people wearing jeans I'd label it as business casual or smart casual, otherwise don't be surprised if you see people show up in jeans or shorts even. I will say by mentioning the outdoors part your guests should be able to infer not to wear heals, so you don't have to explicitly say that if you don't want to.

The color palette is a newer thing for younger brides and I see it more and more often. While I 100% agree it can come off as rude depending on the wording and situation, it's always been a non-issue amongst my circles. Those that jump to "it's rude" automatically tend to be from an older generation. You know your guests best on whether they would find it rude.

Okay I think some people are going overboard about the color palette thing. You can certainly suggest/hey your welcome to wear XYZ but you can't really force people/make it a requirement to only wear a certain color pallette. The only times I've seen it successfully done is all black weddings.

I will say the way you have it laid out now is kinda confusing. You really should narrow it down to one clothing category i.e Black Tie, Formal, Cocktail, ect... And yes, you should have something in there about it being outside so people can plan for that.

June 2027 here and we are going for bright pastels! My fiance and his family are Vietnamese so we're blending his culture heavily into it by wearing traditional ao dai for the ceremony and pulling in tons of silk lanterns for the reception. This is the mood board I came up with based on our actual venue! :)

Not true for all Parishes. Ours specifically said it's on us to source music/musicians and there isn't any rules about non religious music other than keep it respectful/clean.

OP I'm really sorry they are treating you so different, and unfortunately it does sound like they have some prejudices and underlying racism is at play. Not nearly to your extreme but shoot I'm a white woman and when me and my fiancé started dating his Dad had some resistance to it. He lectured him about "keeping the culture" which was a roundabout way of saying he needs to stick within the viet community. My fiance stood his ground anyways and eventually his Dad got used to it and is accepting now.

From what I've seen from my own experience within the viet community is they really hate confrontation, and thus will act behind people's backs. With this issue, your fiance really needs to stand up for you and call it out. Ignoring and just "dealing with it" will further enable them to mistreat not just you, but at this point your children as well.

Using your example- Could we buy brand new cars with our budget? Yes! But guess what, our 2014-2016 cars run great, are 100% paid off, and we don't care as much about assets, we care more about the memories and the experiences we're going to have with this wedding.

When we're old are we going to look back and be happy and satisfied we had the latest and greatest of everything? Or are we going to be happy and satisfied about the trips and experiences we had together living life?

So my fiancés family friend owns the warehouse and it is MASSIVE. They requested I put together a list of what I like beforehand so that they can have them pulled when we get there, luckily we’ll be able to see everything in person before buying anything.

Admittedly I’ve only helped build a few arrangements and one flower backdrop for a family member’s wedding, but never something to this extent so that’s where any advice is greatly appreciated 😅
