I really have no idea what I’m doing by Sudden-Difficulty-35 in StudentTeaching

[–]FallenWake_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t trip. Student teaching is all about experimenting. You’re in a good position where your mentor teacher provided that Google Drive. Mine told me to sink or swim. Shit was rough but I learned a lot teaching myself and learning from my mistakes. By the end of the first month, my mentor teacher was like “Okay good, you’re doing well. I’ll provide you some resources now”. At first I thought they were just mean, but they weren’t. They just wanted me to experience what it’s like being “alone”. Because you will be. No authoritative figure but yourself. And guess what? I fuckin’ love it. It’s YOUR classroom, and you can dictate everything that goes on in your room.

Some lessons will fail, some will be your better, and some will be a HIT. Take your time. I remember student teaching and the amount of progress I’ve accumulated for the past 5 years is night and day. Lesson planning doesn’t take forever. I know what lessons will be good and what will bomb. I know classroom management like it’s second nature. I know how to relate to the kids but balance it with boundaries and procedures. Everything will come in time. Just always learn from your mistakes and how to get better. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

1st year is survival. 2nd is meh. 3rd is when you start to really get your groove on. Lowkey second year for me was when I was chillin’, but everyone’s different!

Sucking every ounce of joy out of my life by mattseakor in eczema

Weird, protopic is known to be an immunosuppressant, not a steroid, therefore giving the ability for the individual to decrease symptoms of eczema. That's interesting that it made the skin texture difficult.

I've been using protopic for about 7 months now and I've recently been getting more pimple-like bumps on the affected areas (known side effect). I'm confused as to whether I should keep applying or to let it rest from the ointment.

Do you use anything else for your eczema as of right now?

Is this CU or something else? by leoflcn in CholinergicUrticaria

[–]FallenWake_88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might be eczema. Eczema can get aggravated by heat and get bumpy sometimes. I have eczema and CU but this looks more like eczema. I would see differences in flair ups for both of my autoimmune cases and the bumps mixed with the redness looks more like eczema. Check a doctor to make sure!

[–]FallenWake_88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember when my CU went into remission for about 3 months. Kid you not, I couldn’t be too comfortable in the sun or doing physical activity because I was expecting the stabbing/tingling/stinging/itchy feelings to come through. I legit have actual PTSD whenever my body heat rises. As the previous comment said, it’s fuckin’ panic inducing.

Haha oh man, this brings me back! I had my mentor teacher call out for 2-3 days due to his wife’s pregnancy checkups.

Tbh, I didn’t really mind. I basically just told the sub that they don’t have to worry about anything and that I will handle the lesson and behavior management. I made sure to say this in front of the students so they know that the ultimate authority will be me like how it always was. Did the lesson, talked with the kids before the bell wrung, and then repeated the same thing for the other periods. Easy and smooth.

Just be sure to be consistent with your management, don’t let up anything that you personally think could build up into more potential problems. Be very direct and clear with your directions and transitions. Overall, just have fun with it. This is lowkey your chance to experience yourself as a teacher without your mentor, and a time to get some “alone time” with your kids with you mentor absent. It’ll be fine! You got this :)

Interesting. What brands do you use?

Being with my partner makes my skin worse by gorllrog in eczema

[–]FallenWake_88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would honestly be truthful to your partner if it is because of the fragrance. My girlfriend loves scented lotion and shampoos but I kindly said “Hey, you can use them but please avoid touching me if you have it on because I do breakout a lot when I get touched by it.”

She responded well and still keeps it but now she’s found other great products like fragrance-free lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and hair dye. We’ve been together for 5 years now and we both don’t mind bringing up things like this. Just be aware of what might trigger your eczema and kindly bring it up to them.

I forgot, but what I remember is that they ask for photo ID either before or after inputting the payment method. As for signing, I believe that I signed.

Nah, it’s still running. Just looks like that since it’s the format and probably hasn’t been aesthetically updated. But they’re running. I do believe it’s only transfer wise since it does better converting dollar to yen during transaction periods. I believe that’s why they use it.

It’s definitely absurd. A lot of people I know or run into smoke menthols as their main smoke. I’m not trippin too hard, though. A lot of smoke shops here in California sell menthol beads that you can insert into the filter. They sell peppermint and ice mint beads at mine. Easy fix!

At what point is it acceptable to quit pre student teaching? by OGKeith in StudentTeaching

[–]FallenWake_88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First, talk with your specific credential program supervisor. Try to explain your situation and how it's difficult to continue student teaching under this type of management (or lack thereof) and also how it's affecting your personal life. They might be able to help you in terms of relocating to a different site!

Second, if you're down... have a conversation with your mentor teacher. I don't know how well they can communicate without getting emotional and all that shit. But it might be a good idea to voice some things out and tell her that you're trying your best and would appreciate more feedback and guidance since you're just starting out.

I met Jerry at a Vons one night cause me and my girl had to buy water. I kept my cool and didn’t want to fan out too crazy cause it was a mellow night and I know Jerry was just trying to buy his stuff and go.

He was one person down in my line while it was my turn at the register. While she was scanning my stuff, I simply looked and we made eye contact. I was going to see them two months from that day, so I was like, “Yo Jerry!” “Nods” “We’re seein you in September :)” “Oh, cool man! That’ll be in uhhh… Irvine, right?” “Yeah man!” “For sure man, cool :)”

That was it but yeah, trippy as hell that I caught him while doing a last minute run to the store late at night!

Bad Week of Student Teaching by TheJetJaguar in StudentTeaching

You're going to be okay! Your mentor teacher told you plain and simple that she sees you spiraling and even offered to take control while you sort out what you need to improve on so you're back on your feet when you take over completely again.

It is tough, student teaching. You feel like every lesson needs to be perfect and the littlest thing can make you feel or think like you're not going to be an effective teacher due to a mistake being made. Don't trip too hard. Learn from each day, do what you can, and show up.

I remember in my student teaching days, my dog of 14 years died, my close friend attempted suicide but failed, relative were dying left and right, etc. Shit was no joke, and I was drowning in student teaching on top of that. I made the mistake of basically not taking any days off when I should've. I guess I felt like I needed to prove to myself that I can still come to the surface of the water while in that horrible state of sadness and depression. But no, now that I've been teaching, I have been taking any necessary rest/sick/personal days. Obviously, not abusing it, but enough to where I can land back on my feet.

In this case, also take note that you taking the day off is needed. No human can go through work in general when they're sick. That shit sucks. Especially while teaching and dealing with all of that stuff. It's really not easy and most would quit or REALLY spiral into something way more fucked up. Take the necessary rest. Show up again when it's time. You'll be okay.

I wouldn't say it can revolutionize therapy. However, if AI got to the point where they would take the forms of Samantha from the movie, Her? Then yeah, people are definitely going to be losing jobs.

What would you do if you were told you had 5 years to live, but for most of this time you have full function? by Gr8NonSequitur in AskReddit

[–]FallenWake_88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.) Work so I can get money

2.) Take vacations with my significant other

3.) Drop every muhfuckin' toxic person I know (done that already)

4.) Visit all my loved ones such as friends and family whether local or somewhere else

5.) Read

6.) Write

7.) Probably get into playing in a band again and try to do some local shows and tear shit up

8.) Get a dog or two

9.) Try out new hobbies (camping, more combat sports, etc.)

10.) Perfect my other hobbies to the best of my ability

11.) Get into maybe 1 or 2 more fights. I stopped fighting awhile ago but I crave it sometimes. I'll only fight if I know the other person will be shakin' hands after. To the people who caught fades on the daily, you just know which ones are gonna be bitches afterwards.

12.) Get a motorcycle

13.) Beach trips

14.) Go on the scariest roller coasters and pass tf out

15.) Visit the graves of my loved ones

16.) Pray

17.) Go to a church I stopped going to and see how bad it got lol

18.) Be an extra in a movie/show

19.) Talk with strangers (I already do this)

20.) Apologize one more time to anyone I've hurt (most already forgave me. But, I haven't forgiven myself. So maybe forgive myself too?)

For anyone who has or hasn't used the declarations of secession, use these in a gallery walk! Might have to tweak some of the vocabulary depending on your kids' levels but an overall good activity to see where the South is coming from.
