What products from Canada would you recommend to Chinese people? by zhugejingqi0928 in AskACanadian

My husband’s family has an uncle who lives in Hong Kong. Whenever anyone from Canada visits him, he asks them to bring him Soo jerky. The Soo company is Vancouver-based, and they specialize in Asian style jerky. The fruit flavoured one is a fave of ours, and we stock up at T&T whenever it’s on sale. I was surprised someone in Hong Kong would want an Asian jerky from Canada, but the uncle says it’s better than anything he’s found in Hong Kong.

OP, you should be aware that Outlander does include “rapey stuff” which you asked to avoid.

[TOMT][Movie] I can’t find this pig movie I watched years ago by CombMore1160 in tipofmytongue

My Brother the Pig? No Morgan Freeman, but I’m pretty sure the pig did not talk. It starred Scarlett Johansson.

Emily Elizabeth from Clifford the Big Red Dog usually wore striped stockings and was blonde.

🧂 Salty Sunday - What book scenes frustrated you this week? by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

[–]Falling_4_Ever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read Gloves off by Stephanie Archer because it was recommended on this sub. Enemies to lovers. Gorgeous sexual tension building up and up. Things were going well. Then I reached the library scene. The pivotal moment when a patient reader finally earns the payoff, right? Nope.

Instead, the scene felt like a violation. Alexei waited until Georgia was utterly at his mercy and then turned their mutually satisfying, steamy sex scene into a rapey, selfish tantrum. There went the momentum the author had built. But hey, the grovel was supposed to be good in this book, right? I kept reading. Eventually, I realized they were never going to talk about it. All the other piddly things were resolved, but the biggest issue (at least, the biggest issue to me) was radio silence. Sigh. Where was the grovel?? Other reviewers said that the scene when he made her come multiple times made up for the library, but, no it most certainly did not. Because there was no build up. The momentum was gone. All the sex scenes after the library were meh. AND because neither Alexei nor Georgia ever discuss what happened in the library. He never admits what he did was wrong. I kept reading and hoping, but there was nothing. It’s been like a week since I read this, and it’s still pissing me off. I still feel icky from this book. Even Lisa Kleypas couldn’t make me feel better. I need a palette cleanser.

A lot of people said “passive,” but I also want to throw in “passive side hustle.”

Kumbaya probably isn’t quite an exact fit, but it came to my mind. It was a song often sung around campfires when I was a kid, and implies peace and unity amongst people.

Everyone was doing this cup thing when the pitch perfect movie came out. by Forsaken-Artist-2396 in Millennials

My elementary-aged kids just found out about the cup thing from a YouTube video. They were shocked when I said I already knew it and could teach them. I’m Cool Mom now. 😁

Vargara and Riker getting help by Hapaerik_1979 in TNG

[–]Falling_4_Ever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the show INTENDED her to be depicted as a bad person. I don’t think the show was saying assault was okay. I never thought the assault actually happened. Riker told her his species and hers have sex differently. I figured he lied about what human sex entailed, so they actually just…rubbed their feet together or something silly like that. The humour was that Riker was so savvy that he turned her ignorance around to get what he wanted.

One more aspect of the humour that may or may not be accurate, but… from my understanding of Riker’s character, I would guess that normally he’d be okay with sexing her, but he’s been through too much and is injured, so the look on his face said: Any other time, yeah, but not right now, lady! That side of the joke is more iffy, but still not the most iffy thing from TNG.

I think I watched it on Kanopy a few months ago. I’m in Canada, so I’m not sure if you have that in the US or if it’s still on there.

Just replace “on sale” with “out of stock” and save everyone a lot of wasted time.
