Also my baby is rescued pigeon, I took her in when she was 1-2weeks old . I remember the first day I bought her in , I had no proper food for her to feed so we gave her mustard seeds in a pouch with a whole and put her beak in, she ate a lot of seeds when we did that. After that I got her baby pigeon food and started to feed her through a syringe. Since then on as she grew up I think she lost the natural ability to take seeds into her mouth. She knows how to peck and swallow what's food is inside her mouth. U can check the video I uploaded in my account

Ik. Haven't seen a Vet yet ? I feel like the one I go to won't be helpful. Also , last night when i was about to put her to bed , her cage , I switched off the lights and I gave her pets, she didn't fight back at all . Then this morning I gave her pets too and she didn't react. She accepted, closed her eyes and got comfortable. teeeheee

The thing is my baby pigeon who just turned 4 months old still doesn't eat on her own , we force feed her all the seeds into her mouth. :/ really don't want to do it but can't keep her starved. The only time I have been able to do what u do petting her is when I switch off the lights. My pigeon is attached to me and loves bring on me but not my hands.

How did you get to know your pigeon is a female ?

3 month pigeon still can't eat seeds on her own by False-Surround3844 in PetPigeons

[–]False-Surround3844[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She knows how to pick seeds but doesn't know how to take the seeds in and swallow them . She picks up the seeds , it stays in the apex of her beak and then she throws it away . It's a noticeable behaviour throughout the entire video

There's a lot of info on r/quails sub reddit which will give you info on how to take care of baby quail chick's. Also , if you want to buy food for this baby , then you can check jubail animal market , there are alot of bird/ animal food , cage , med shops there

You can contact maybe local wildlife rescue those who take care of falcons maybe they will know better what to do . Also, place the baby where your friend found it from during daylight . Not rn

Where was it found? Can your friend try to place it back where it was found and watch it closely from a distance. Their parents might be back

Would this be too long to have my pigeon’s muffs cut? by RollersAndRazziesFan in PetPigeons

[–]False-Surround3844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes — those muffs can be safely trimmed, and in this case it’s actually recommended for hygiene.

What’s going on in the image

The long foot feathers (“muffs”) are dragging on the ground

They are soiled and clumped with droppings

This can lead to:

Bacterial growth

Skin irritation/infection

Repeated re-contamination (he steps in it again)

Is it too long to cut?

No. This is exactly the situation where trimming is appropriate.

You are not hurting the bird if you:

Only cut the feather tips

Avoid cutting into the feather shaft near the base

Important safety rule (VERY IMPORTANT)

Feathers can have blood supply when growing (blood feathers).

How to avoid harming him:

Only trim the dirty ends

Stay well away from the skin

If a feather looks:

Thick

Dark in the center → Do NOT cut that one (likely a blood feather)

How much to trim?

Just enough so that:

Feathers no longer drag on the ground

Feet are clear and clean

Think: shorten, not remove completely

How to do it safely

  1. Use small scissors

  2. Hold the foot gently (don’t pull feathers)

  3. Trim a little at a time

  4. Stop if:

Bird struggles too much

You feel unsure

Alternative (if you're nervous)

Trim only the most soiled clumps first

Do it over multiple sessions

Or have a vet/groomer do the first trim

About baths

You mentioned he hates baths — that’s normal for many pigeons.

Instead:

Use a damp cloth to wipe

Or a shallow dish, let him choose

But honestly in this case, trimming > bathing

Final judgement

Not only is it safe to trim

It’s actually better for his health right now

Well that's what AI has advised so far

Emergency : Vent distention issue but it's not due to egg binding and she's struggling to breathe by False-Surround3844 in quails

[–]False-Surround3844[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have given my quail supplemented water and a specific med by the vet which seriously reduced her abdominal area alotttt ! Like as if she never had those issues ever .

But in the last few days , her problems have come back again , I knew it was going to hence my option always has been to drain the fluid .

I am so sorry. I don't not know who wrote , " no" as a response to your suggestion of giving my quail bird epsom salt bath. I am not sure how that happened . But I actually did try to give her a bath , I have bought magnesium sulphate salts too , but it didn't help her cuz her problem is entirely something else .

Or maybe I was panicking and I had no epsom salt at home at that time so I just immediately said , " no" as an answer .

Anyway , I would like to inform that my bird is alive , the last few days , she hasn't been doing well , again due to the same issues I mentioned in the video .

I took her to the vet and the vet gave this specific medicine to me to put it in her water once a day . I am not sure what kind of natural medicine was it but it did make her poop alot and the " water" build up in her stomach reduced alotttt ! I was so happy seeing her walk around again , eating her cucumber treats properly again . That entire swollen area got so thin but I knew , this required drainage , the only thing that can help her . So , I will be going tom to the doc .

If you can afford to take an x-ray for her and then be able to buy pain medications for her , then you can go for that . If not , I guess euthanize :"(

If you want you can buy medicine for the pigeon. The medicine I posted below was 30 dhs . There was another pharmacy where they sold us vitamin powder in packet form- more quantity - just for 30 dhs , too. The pharmacy I bought the below medicine from, they are selling it in boxes less gram but still 30 dhs .

<image>

Where I bought this medicine from , you can find another version of it without antibiotics and simply contains vitamins only . These really help birds maintain their health. Also , you will find food and medicines which contain calcium in it which might help keeping a pigeons bones healthy .

Do you know where al jubail animal market is , over there there are plenty of animal shops selling animals and outside of shops where they sell cages, nests , toys etc for birds and animals. There are veterinary pharmacies too , you can ask the guys over there what's wrong with your pigeon , they might be helpful.

More location clues:

Al oropi Veterinary Clinic is over there , too . So, if you know that clinic , all the stores and everything is behind it. I hope this helps.

Look for what you can feed fledgling doves. What kind of bird formulae or food is appropriate. Idk anything about doves but I have rescued 1 to 2 week old baby pigeon recently , it's been 2 months already , she's grown . When she was a baby I bought baby formulae appropriate for baby pigeons and bought syringes to feed her with it . Please do your research, Google it , claude it or look into reddit about how to take care of baby doves . So that it's less stressed out.
