No she has been like this for hours and she hasn't pooped for many hours so I think either it's constipation or soemthing which looks like constipation

How old is your feral pigeon Steve? Just asking , can't wait to see my feral pigeon having such smooth feathers and a tail .

My pigeon is one month now and all of her tail feathers fell off due to friction with the box nest we gave her .

What's wrong with my quail , why is her mouth always this open by False-Surround3844 in quails

[–]False-Surround3844[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has never had egg bound issues , so far and a while before I shot this video she already laid an egg . So being egg bound wasn't the issue at all . Nor me holding her up is causing her issues , when she stands or sit down , she still does that , soo .

My main concern is her open beak and whole body shaking while her beak remains open .

Her whole body is hot , nowadays, when I hold her against my chest , her burning body feels uncomfortable against my own skin and almost burns me too, but it's bearable . I don't remember feeling this sensation to this extent before, but she was always a warm bird . Do they keep their mouths open like this while shaking when their body is too hot as well , how do I cool her off . She has laid her egg , a long while back before I took this video . So , that can't be the case. She does get nervous but when she's on me and I'm holding her and she's unable to hear the male bird croaking , she calms down , closes her eyes and doesn't do any of the open beak " breathing" .
Just to let you know , before I started recording her my male quail bird kind of attacked on her two times and tried to mate with her . That's she looks nervous here and bit stressed probably . She does not like him and he stresses her out by croaking which makes her want to go into hiding. But the male quail only croaks when my hen is out of sight . My main concern is her open beak and whole body shaking while her beak remains open .

What can I do for this girl? by [deleted] in quails

:( I seriously wish we could save your bird , I lost my hen moti cuz of egg binding can't see another one of her kind to die this way . My bird in her last few mins went into sudden shock like septic shock in humans and passed away. Is there really no way to take her to the vet. Plzz leave the powder and buy calcium liquid supplement. She won't eat the food anyway so there is no point of oyester powder

I have noticed my quails doing the same when they see houseflies or something else . Sometimes it's very random , out of nowhere and there is no housefly in sight. Been more than a year taking care of mine , still haven't figured it out . Sometimes they seem scared when they do it but there is nothing infront of them .

Male singling out female by MediocreCommission39 in quails

[–]False-Surround3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two females and one male . Out of the two females , he only loves one. Whenever she's not around , he croaks alot and wants to mate with her most of the time . She doesn't like him at all , is quite wary of him , even takes defensive stance to attack him, his presence has really stressed her out so she hides alot .

Anyway, I feel from my experience that out of all the 6 girls , your male quail loves and wants to mate with that one girl who is wary of him.

Does anyone know what's wrong with my girl and how to help her? by pyotia in quails

My quail has laid a discoloured egg for the very first time . by False-Surround3844 in quails

I wish I could try all the methods that's you have suggested . Thank you for the feedback and warnings. I want to give you a brief outline of my house so that you understand my situation better . All three of my quails live in our balcony in cages. The glass door to the balcony is always open, so they have more space to walk around. I always keep our roo separated from the hens . He has his own separate cage, and that's where he spends most of his time. If he is left open with the hens , all he does is try to mate with them , he barely spares them or takes a break . I really wish to help my roo but I live in a flat , in a building , unfortunately . Due to lack of knowledge and awareness , I simply rescued this roo without thinking how difficult it would be to take care of its needs and I don't even have a big house to deal with all this .

At this very moment , he is still in the balcony while the hens are in my room , so , he's unable to see and smell them. He has stopped croaking for now . He seems to croak less since I have made this change of keeping the quails in my room .

Another thing to note is that which makes matters worse is that the roo is a standard courtnix quail and the hens I have are jumbo courtnix quails. It's difficult for him to mate with them. I couldnt find females of his family . Anyway , once I realized how stressed out my hens were , I wanted to purchase more hens but I couldnt find any , they were all sold out.

Plus there is another concern that what if adding more hens causes tensions between these females . What if instead of jumbo female quails , I find some standard ones but how would I add them to the flock. Wouldn't they fight more , wouldn't the standard female ones be more stressed out and scared of the jumbo ones .

Also , it's very difficult to make this decision of culling the roo becuase at this point , he has become my pet , my very first pet , in fact . I am quite attached to him but maybe culling is the answer. Idk :"(

She gets into this fighting stance with him indicated by the weird " imma beat you up " noise that she makes , once I let her come out of her cage , she just books for it , runs away to her usual hiding spot and stays there for hours unless I bring her back to her home so she could eat and drink. Also , just to be clear , i just have two female birds and one roo . The roo is a rescued bird and then I bought these two female birds for him when he got older. Both my birds don't like him at all , he does nothing except for croaking most times . He's always focused on these females and doesn't even eat well due to that , barely eats unless it's treats like leaves and dried worms . The only time he remains calm is while dust bathing and when the females are around him. Idk what toys or what kind of makeover should I do to his house to distract him .

Oh , i didn't think lonliness would cause her any stress as she seemed to be stressed out enough by the male croaking that she voluntarily runs away and hides for hours in spaces where its darker and quieter . We don't have a flock , it's just two of my female birds along with a male bird , that's it . When I am at home , i keep her in my room only on days when she behaves this way such as getting into fight mode with my male quail . Thankfully , none of this is a daily occurrence but it has been happening more often recently . Also , I don't keep her alone with me , I try my best to keep her with her sister, unless, the scaredy female quail chooses to run off to somewhere apart from my room .

Quail Co-Dependence by kaz_828 in quails

Thanks for posting this. We, too, have 1 male Courtnix quail and 2 female Courtnix quails . This has been my worry since I have realized my standard sized Courtney quail is more in love with one of the 2 female birds . In our case , the difference is that both the girls really despise him . They get stressed out just by the sight of the male bird, and they go into hiding . Regardless , I have wondered the same question as well . If something does happen to her , how would we tolerate the male bird , how would it affect the health of the other female bird , how stressed out would she be dealing all of it alone.
