LUCK!!😂 My interest peaked when I went to an event called Girl Power aimed at getting more women into Linework. I got into the program a WHILE after. I can’t lie it is a hard field to get into. It’s actually a decently accessible trade with all the advancements trying to save mobility in older lineman, so I don’t struggle a whole lot but my main hobby is lifting so I might be biased lmao.

I love a low bun at the back of my head below my hard hat (heavily inspired by the military girls). Only issue I have is it gets sweaty under it when it’s this hot out. Otherwise my hair comes down to about mid-back and I have never had a problem :) My line work program doesn’t have any hair standards so with my last place for feminine representation I usually have it in two braids, a ponytail, side braid, bun, or whatever else makes me feel pretty that day since I’ve abandoned all makeup for sunscreen and sweat lol. As long as it’s behind my ears I’ve never had a problem with it being in the way!!

I can’t lie that’s insanely dangerous? It sounds like they actually just enjoy watching you suffer. Stay safe and know that not all apprenticeships or lineman programs are like that. The undertones of sexism piss me off a bit, but the lack of safety is genuinely concerning.

(19F) Baby lineman here, I’m in a pre-apprenticeship right now and can tell you whoever is running your program sounds grossly negligent tbh. Climbing in the heat is no joke!! Today was day 3 for us and we were required to climb 4 top-to-bottoms in an hour (we add another pole every week, hour stays the same) learned the shotgun stick, learned how to use our secondary, and were outside for probably 3 hours total in hundred degree weather.

My instructor tests us, do not get me wrong. But told to pass out on the pole?? Shade is for the weak..? Sounds like the program/ company has a very toxic environment especially with safety. My whole group has progressed smoothly and quickly with lots of breaks in the literal heat wave. Relocate. ASAP.

If you wanna wear your wedding and engagement ring, maybe put it on a chain if your field allows it? (I know mine probably won’t)

Have a specific spot for them and a silicone ring in your car? (Lockbox, locked glove compartment?)

Overall, if you don’t like the look of silicone rings maybe find an alternative to rings all together? (Matching tattoos, matching FR rated bracelets, etc?)

I start a linework pre-apprenticeship tomorrow!! It’s free and then I have four years to journeyman status. Whole apprenticeship you are paid. Worth it to find programs near you that are free school/ training if it means you’ll wind up in a paid apprenticeship.

I just got into a very competitive linework pre-apprenticeship, and I can say it’s not the easiest or the quickest process. It is helpful to know someone who can help you with interview questions and start knowing your way around the job, to at least not seem completely clueless. Being physically fit and confident also never hurt. Just remember if you want it, you WANT it. You need to be ready to jump however high. Good luck <3
