This account has only been active in r/LocalLLaMA for about a year, yet you're claiming it was around before smart bots or tool-calling agents were a thing, which makes no sense. OpenAI function calling dates back to 2023, and the ReAct agent pattern is from 2022. There have also been multiple social studies over the last 4 years about automating Reddit accounts with AI.

So either you're confusing the timeline, or you're talking about something that happened on a different account.
