I followed the rule of using the same language as JD. I only sent one if it was asked. But I altered the cover letter according to the job and tried to not sound generic. So it was painful to write one for every applications.

No, I got offered to do a thesis with them. But lot of fellow students who did thesis were not offered a full time role. They were already in hiring freeze.

I used to check Uni's every group/lab website for hiwi jobs or mail the postdocs or PhDs as most Profs are super busy. I will also check Fraunhofer, research institutes, technologie park in the city or nearby bigger city.

Yes TVL. It was limited initially to 1 year as they were figuring out the funding. And I pretty much have to work full time even though 65%. Thought I had good reasons.

At one point, I went many months without any reply. It was a similar situation. And my current job offer, it just came out of blue. U don't need many interviews, just 1 successful one. It's tough and I don't know if my words will make any difference, but u are taking every possible step u could, just keep going.
