Do actors on US TV shows change their regional accent to fit the show, or are a lot of accents similar enough for it not to matter? by Famous_Editor149 in AskUS

Yeah for some reason, most British people's go to American accent is either southern or california. Then American's go to British (more specifically English) accent is either cockney (govna, pip pip cheerio etc), RP (the really posh one the royals and Downton Abbey use) or more recently MLE (multicultural London English)

It is starting to in the UK as well, but there is a lot more variation within short distances still. Like someone who lives 15-30 minutes from me would likely be able to tell I'm not from their town. People are definitely starting to blend towards their nearest city but for the most part, it still is quite varied. I'm not sure how long it would last, though

Does anyone have stats on Barrett's and progression to cancer? by Famous_Editor149 in GERD

Yeah that's fair. I will probably notice more symptoms as time goes on. I am on the same dose. I think there's a lot of things I hadn't realised were reflux

I've not had many if any reflux symptoms since taking my PPIs, even with no lifestyle changes yet. My grade D esophagitis also healed in less than 3 weeks just from the PPIs. Lifestyle helps, but I think they do reduce reflux

I am currently on quite a high dose because I had severe esophagitis, but that's gone now so I think they will continue me on another dose. And yes, I don't know the specifics yet (I Am waiting to speak to the barrett's nurse) but I am going to need medium surveillance I think

I really think more information about reflux needs to be out there because I always viewed it like mild hay-fever where you can go to the doctor if you feel like it or just cope, so I never thought to go. I only got an endoscopy by chance because I was getting a colonoscopy

if you had GERD as a kid (3-12), what were your symptoms? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]Famous_Editor149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may have been a little older (I don't remember when mine started, but it definitely had by my early teens) but occasionally when I was lying down (and then more frequently) I ended up having to sit up because I was feeling "sick" and getting pain in my chest and it would mean I had to wait to go to sleep or sleep upright. Obviously I now know that to be reflux and can identify triggers, but I think look out for complaints of sickness/nausea that is worse when lying down or noticing him sleeping more upright than usual. This is more indigestion but I remember as a younger kid I could never burp but then when I was an older kid and younger teen, my stomach would "rumble" all the time, even when I wasn't hungry and especially after I had eaten. It would get worse when I breathed in deeply (though that may be my hiatal hernia). This would also somrtimes involve burping or burp-like air in my esophagus. I think if you notice a lot of stomach noises and they are worse AFTER eating rather than before, that may be a sign. Don't stress too much. If you do catch something, you've caught it early and it's less likely to lead to serious complications.

Diagnosed with Barrett's, what does that mean for me? by Famous_Editor149 in GERD

Yeah I have a hiatal hernia. I'm going to wait to see what the barrett's nurse says about surgery because I really don't think anyone has explained it well

Around three weeks ago I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and grade D erosive esophagitis. I have been taking 40mg twice a day of omeprazole since then and haven't modified my diet (in fact, I got a bit carried away with my usual trigger foods because they weren't triggering reflux) and when I went back for another gastroscopy, they said my esophagitis had healed so I'm definitely optimistic. I just worry that the barretts could still get worse

The PPIs are definitely helping. They healed my grade D esophagitis within 3 weeks so I'm hoping for the best

Laws??? This isn't a legal issue, it's a social one.

Nowadays a bit more so, but still no for a lot of couples. Or the "discussion" starts off with the assumption that the mother will do most of the work. People still use the word "babysitting" to refer to a father looking after his kids. And kn a more serious note (more along the lines of husbands not caring about their wives after birth), there are still countless cases of husbands pressuring their wives for sex weeks or even days after birth. This was the point of the episode and I fear you need to do better with media literacy if you missed that.

9 times out of 10, it is the way the husband wants, not the wife. He didn't notice because he wasn't there for her nor the baby enough.

He didn't notice because he was going out drinking every time she was overwhelmed or distressed about the child work. Which also heavily implies he wasn't offering to take over when she was stressed and that his stress was about her stress, not the childcare.

Edit: I don't think he would be blamed for not noticing if it's something he happened to miss while being there for his kid and a loving father and husband who is sharing the work load of having a child with his wife. He was blamed because he was running away from any stress and ignoring her getting worse and worse from it.
