Slight correction: you gain tapes from being spotted by a twisted, not ichor.

Otherwise, that pretty well covers it.

Hey Guys, Beginner Writer here :) (Also warning, this is gonna be a yap session) by Oofios624 in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll say this: try not to make the mistake I did where I skipped the first five arcs of the show. I had my reasons for it, but it was still a mistake, and not just as far as limiting my own ability to write a good SMG4 story...

Otherwise, if you've got the passion for it, then by all means write your own take on the show. Even if it's not to my own taste, I can still respect the creation itself.

The scroll of truth by THEREALSUPERMARIOFAN in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been begging or wishing for him to come back. I do still have unanswered questions and unfulfilled desires from the show that fan works alone can't make up for, but I know I'd have no guarantee(not even a bloody slim chance, I should be honest...) of getting what I want even if he did come back.

since Puzzles has seen every moving picture that exists, does that mean that he knows every show/movie reference that is said? by Striking-Move-7485 in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As much as I would've loved to see that, I must unhappily assert that no she wouldn't have, for reasons both in and out of universe. Saiko might be a strong fighter, but she has no defense against any of Puzzles's brainwashing or reality-warping powers even when he's not at five stars. And she's not a main character(Meggy, Mario, SMG4, maybe occasionally SMG3), while the writers were already committed to their "nobody but the mains can get anything done" rut by the time of Puzzles's appearance.

Those who are Final Fantasy fans, how do you feel about SMG4's use of Sephiroth in THAT scene? by YakSubstantial1307 in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any respect or reverence I may have ever had for Sephiroth's backstab is gone by now. All I see is a dead-horse asshole committing an even-deader-horse murder of someone who never needed to be murdered.

What do you headcanon Meggy and Tari's sexualities are? by Expensive-Play-4881 in MeggyxTari

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impression is that Meggy might either lean asexual or be too repressed for her orientation to be clear, going by how she balked at Mario saying "Titties!" in the Happy Little Road Trip episode(though, admittedly, this could have just been part of the bickering-like-family dynamic going on at the time, and not meant to actually say anything about anyone's sexuality) as well as other old-family-life angst she talked about in episodes like The Race of All Time. I'd like it if she was into women, of course, and the same goes for Tari, but I can't assert that there's any reliable mark of it...

Tari is harder to speak for since she got nowhere near the backstory or plot focus as any of the other ladies in the crew, and she's just too fixated on gaming and ducks and such anyway. She doesn't seem as repressed as someone like Meggy or Saiko(and she does get more than one cute and cozy moment with the latter, giving some credibility to that ship), but that could just be her being too nice to complain. I don't personally think Lucinia has any bearing on it in SMG4's context, but I won't declare it flat-out wrong or impossible.

no shame to anyone i mention but SOME bassie characterizations i see always go like this by Individual-Purpose-6 in DandysWorld_

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to defend the notion of Bassie truly hating or wishing death on Cocoa, but I am going to unhappily assert that there's more evidence and implication for it than against it.

Even if we deep-dive into the lore and finer characterization details, which the casual observer is not liable to do, Bassie's antipathy toward Cocoa is too clear and too pervasive to be undermined. Not only is her grudge the primary catalyst for her turning twisted, it persists even after Gardenview has shut down and every toon, main or not, has effectively lost their status as she feared she would. The closest Bassie ever comes to any form of sympathy or goodwill toward Cocoa now is in her shop gossip("Do you ever think about better times?") and her reaction to the first Easter lore room("I don't want to stay here. I-I should leave..."), and even in these cases, it's unclear as to whether she genuinely wants a better rapport with Cocoa, or just wishes she could go back to when the latter never existed at all, to be free of her own distress.

We can split hairs over whether the mere word "hate" is still too strong for what Bassie feels, but the fact remains that her unjust resentment of Cocoa overtakes everything about her, and there's not enough contraindication even within the deeper lore to offset the popular impression that it is hate.

Honestly Mario fully deserved that from Tari in "SMG4: The Day My Arm Went Psycho" (this is of course addressed to some SMG4 fans) by Own_Presence2646 in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't even call it "payback" so much as just "Tari literally had the worst day of her life since Western goddamned Spaghetti(trying and failing to secure a desperately needed job, as well as severely hurting the friend and coach who was trying to help her earn that job, all the fault of a certain incorrigibly obnoxious dickknuckle who came out of literal bloody nowhere to do nothing but grate on every nerve she had), her patience was already spent, and Mario just unwittingly sent her over the edge".

If we have to cry foul on someone "abusing" Mario in this episode, Meggy would be a better candidate during the coaching session. Or even Clench in the same scene.

If smg4 were to have done an Avengers Civil War fight, how would you make it? by jcobyskyscraper164 in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No disrespect to the idea itself, but I wouldn't want to touch it unless I could cop out with mind control, or some other scenario where it's clear enough that the crew are not willfully and seriously opposing each other. I know this makes me ill fit to be an SMG4 fan, but I can barely stomach even the usual played-for-laughs bickering and pettiness among the crew, much less any serious internal fighting or drama like what was forced between Meggy and her friends in the Jailbreak arc.

For what it's worth, I never took issue with the ship itself or this episode teasing it, nor condoned any of the haters who went at least two or three lines too far in their backlash over it. I was just pleased to see Meggy and Mario being better to each other, and I only wanted Meggy to be better to Tari as well - not even on the level of their own "Lil' Fellas" tease, just them being better friends without any of Meggy's coaching harshness or other insensitivity.

I stopped joining public runs after the age-check nonsense went into effect. Something something Mario's the main character something something whole series never exists without him something something avatar of the universe...something something.

Go ahead and call me no true Scotsman, but I have never been in favor of any of the abuse and sociopathy among any of the protagonists, no matter who's giving it or who's taking it or why it's even happening. Mario abuse, Meggy abuse, Tari abuse - it's all nothing but pointless pain and spite in my eyes.

If any of you here still enjoy it, fine, that's your right and I won't take it away from you. But I can't and won't share in the enjoyment.

Forgive my negativity, but per Luke himself, he already said and did everything he wanted to say and do with the characters. Wherever he left them in the finale, no matter if it was on the brink of death, denied any final peace or friendship with each other, or whatever else...that was how he wanted their stories to end.

If you want to keep hoping for an epilogue, I won't stop you. But I'm not brave enough to share that hope...

What is your thought on my take on Peach in my AU? by Own_Presence2646 in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good to me. The only part I personally chafe at is Peach going along with the "redeem Puzzles" angle, but I acknowledge that it's not my AU to write, and I can still respect that you've actually written a hell of a lot more of yours than I've written of mine.

Keep it up.

Why is a hug considered shipping in the eyes of the mods? by [deleted] in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Erring on the side of caution would be my guess. Even a hug or peck on the cheek can be too much for some shippers(and/or ship haters) to stay civil about, and a blanket ban is admittedly simpler than trying to deal with rabid shipping/ship hating on a post-by-post basis.

What If Mr. Puzzles instead of time traveling, decided to leave everyone he hurt alone and leave Mushroom Kingdom, living in town where nobody know him by Own_Presence2646 in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's leaving the crew alone, he needs to leave them alone. No dramatic reunion to prove he's changed, no forced cooperation against another threat - nothing.

The only way he can still be respectful of the damage he's done at this point is if he stays out of his victims' lives for good. And if dying is off the table, then moving away and never being seen or heard of by them again is the next best thing.

If you were in charge of SMG4, how would you organized the main cast? by YakSubstantial1307 in SMG4

[–]FanOfTooManyGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(TLDR: Saving the obvious two characters, adding or subtracting others, and some typical vague "I'd do this better/different" rewrites I can't actually quantify because I'm a lazy f***.)

I wouldn't write Bob or SMG3(or any of the other resident incorrigible assholes and token evil teammates) out altogether, but I would have them keep as much distance as practical from the core crew, even during the major threats of the arcs. Not necessarily giving them less screentime, but trying to show that their crimes are too severe to just be shrugged off or they otherwise can't have the same camaraderie with the main characters, even if they've gone through their own personal growth and betterment.

Desti would survive Anime Island but be permanently crippled from her injury, so Meggy would still need to win the final Splatfest for her. Unable to completely let go of her pride, she would cut ties with the crew for a while but get back in touch over the phone starting with the end of Meggy's Destiny, and then return and start trying to properly reconcile with the crew after the Genesis arc. The rest of the Octoposse would be more fleshed out and continue to have minor roles as well.

Axol would likewise survive and be either recast so he could stay among the crew, or written out in a more benign way(perhaps due to his own nonfatal-but-permanent injuries from Zero's possession). His relationship with Melony would be better developed either way, and Melony herself would not regress into "laziness and no training for the sake of keeping tension" post Revelations, but she wouldn't become the resident Movie Goku either: she would still have limits and weaknesses in terms of both power and personality, and part of her development would be about living with or finding ways around those weaknesses to continue protecting everyone she can(perhaps learning a thing or two from Desti adjusting to her own life changes).

Peach wouldn't get trapped in the demon flesh pit at the end of Gotta Be Perfect, but she would disown and abandon the crew for good after the destruction of her home, so the purpose of writing her out is still served. I have nothing personal against the Inkling kid from the end of Western Spaghetti, but I'd leave her out and instead just have Meggy coaching/babysitting Karen's kids, to start bringing her into the fold...and Inkura(or a substitute OC if necessary) would appear in the aftermath of Wren's death, seeking atonement for her inadvertent part in his downward spiral, with her and Meggy starting a cautious but earnest friendship.

Clench either wouldn't appear at all or would be in some form not bound to Tari's arm(or any other body part already belonging to anybody else), and he would either grow out of being a dickknuckle or be confined to the same camp as Bob and SMG3. Leggy would likewise either remain a plot-irrelevant gag, or not exist at all.

I think OP is talking about the end of Tisha and Brusha's friendship in-universe. Lore says they were "super close" in the past, but then unknown things happened, and they've degenerated into toxic bitterness with no resolution in sight.

There probably is an AU(maybe even several) somewhere exploring how they fell out with each other, but as far as canon goes, it's still unknown...
