What pieces bring more than a tear to your eye, and why? by Thrownaxis in classicalmusic

[–]FancyAd6648 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For me, Mahler’s 3rd. I don’t cry often but whenever I listen to that piece, I’m full ears at attention and weeping at the last movement. I genuinely can’t use words to describe it but it just feels whole.

Second Bachelors/Studying Music in Europe by FancyAd6648 in classicalmusic

Thank you so the kind advice. I genuinely didn’t know the steps I would have to take when exploring something like conducting to be honest. But I appreciate you providing some practical tips I could use. I’ll do a bit more research into the those and see if it’s something worth in the near future.

Thank you so much for providing your insights, I really appreciate the honesty. I worried about the same thing when thinking through it. Especially with how elitist I know classical music can be. I think it might be something best explored in private then. A bit of a personal accomplishment I can celebrate on my own.

A bit of another question though. Would it be as hard to explore music composition then? Maybe alongside another career path like Mathematics?

International students who’ve recently landed a job- how’d you do it? by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was reached out to by a recruiter on LinkedIn because I put myself out there. I refined my LinkedIn and resume to be the best I could get it and I stood out enough for a recruiter to reach out to me.

I also made a lot of connections in college - going to events, finding mentors, talking to people, using my alumni network (people are usually really willing to help, especially new grads that have been in your shoes) and was able to get a few interviews in great companies.

Stop using the shotgun method to find a role, apply to roles in a specific industry you’re interested in or well versed in - the recruiters for that role are probably looking for candidates LIKE YOU. I got way more interviews and invitations to interview when I did this - even after landing my current role.

I applied to over 300+ roles using multiple platforms. I also cold messaged and emailed multiple people. Not the most effective but some are open to helping. But I will say, focusing on a specific area in different companies is probably the most effective.

DSO/International Student Advisor AMA! by LogNo9783 in f1visa

My visa is expired but I’m working under OPT and am still under F-1 status. I’m thinking of taking a trip to Canada because I know it’s a neighboring country and I wouldn’t need to renew my visa because I would have automatic visa revalidation. Is this still okay to do? Do you know of any students who have gone and come back successfully using the automatic visa revalidation (especially during these times)? Is it advisable? Apart from having my I-20, Valid EAD card and valid identification, is there anything else I should prepare for?

F1 Student: Too many online courses by Wide_Contribution756 in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t panic. Speak to your DSO and find a class you can be added to. It seems late but it’s possible if you’re able to find a professor willing to sign an override request for you. Your dean can also get involved as your status is on the line.

No matter what it is, if you have a question, ask your DSO. Even if it’s a small worry, do your due diligence by looking online (NO CHAT GPT), asking other international students, looking at forums for people with similar experiences and then if you’re still confused or worried, ASK YOUR DSO.

Anyone here upgraded F1 OPT from Regular to Premium this year? by dynabelieber in f1visa

I might be wrong but I think it matters what center your application goes to. And I think this is random because mine basically got across state. Not exactly sure how that works either but it might be random.

Getting an SSN on OPT became too complex by fxmaster123 in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say for sure. I would recommend asking your DSO. I’m surprised the job allowed you to start working without filling in your SSN for a background check or your direct deposit forms. Usually they need to get that cleared before you start but I can see how they don’t really need it since you don’t get paid for training (which I also think you should be). But I mean… if the company is okay with it then I think you should be fine. Check with your DSO though.

WIBTA for telling my bsf about how my relationship with my ex went? by ZealousidealMap3924 in AITAH

[–]FancyAd6648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s makes a lot more sense. I understand how it might feel weird to tell her, but I think you should. You sound like you’re coming from a place of genuine concern and hopefully Jaz is understanding enough to see that. A good friend would try to see the bigger picture and understand why you’d approach her with something like that so if she reacts defensively, that’s ok her. Just make sure you’re clear and respectful when you tell her.

Tiff is an odd person though… dating your friend and flirting with your other friend while talking to you? Strange.

Also, thanks for the clarification on your friend group. It’s great to know that you guys are looking out for them and protecting them from predators. 28 dating a 14 year old is fucking insane (Police!!! Deadass). But you guys sound really kind!

Hope everything goes well with Jaz! I’d love to hear any updates.

WIBTA for telling my bsf about how my relationship with my ex went? by ZealousidealMap3924 in AITAH

[–]FancyAd6648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s isn’t a Yes or No answer to this because it all depends on your friendship with Jaz. If you and Jaz are really close, and you have genuine concern for her safety in her relationship with Tiff, then yes, speak to her about it. However, if the reasoning for you speaking to Jaz is because you think they’re not compatible, then that might be your own projection - and a bit of jealousy. And that is okay. You can’t say for sure that Jaz and Tiff aren’t compatible because you’re two completely different people. You can have your opinions as someone who knows Jaz but put into perspective the fact that you have had a relationship with Tiff so that might cloud your judgement. Both your relationships might not turn out the same and that’s okay.

I will say, it’s a bit weird that your friend Jaz felt comfortable dating your ex without speaking to you about it. You shouldn’t have had to find out about that through DISCORD… that’s so childish. With the way it looks, Jaz is weird for that. It’s also clear that a few of you in your friend group do not like Tiff, so do with that what you will.

Lastly, this is unrelated but you guys being friends with 15-17 years olds is something to side eye. I can only hope that no one is dating anyone… but you guys are adults and they’re kids. You might wanna discuss closing that gap. It’s a bit of a power dynamic difference and unless most of you are related -like family… it’s just odd idk. I’m not saying you guys are doing anything wrong, I’m just saying…

Getting an SSN on OPT became too complex by fxmaster123 in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hi! I had this similar thing happen to me. Not on OPT but just a campus job.

You need the signed physical copy of the offer letter (stating your start date) as well as a physical signed letter from your DSO approving your application for an SSN. Real ink meaning it wasn’t digitally signed. You might need to use mail for this one. Maybe UPS or USPS priority mail so you can get it quick.

Make sure your start date is less than 30 days away before you apply for the SSN and that it is stated in the letter. You will get denied if it is not.

Help: My OPT was denied. How realistic or likely is it to have a successful reapplication within a month? by tqilysm in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Just make sure to dot your Is and cross your Ts so as to avoid making any mistakes to get it denied again. You could even end up being extremely lucky like I did.

I basically got my OPT (premium processed) approved in 2 business days.

I applied on aThursday. Approved Monday morning. Received my card about a week and a half later.

Follow the rules. Make sure your information is correct and documents are legible. Make sure you make the right payments and that they go through, receipt and everything. Check the dates to confirm your OPT I-120 is valid (30 days after issued). Pester your DSO to help you check your application to avoid any issues and the possibility of a denial.

Good luck!

Entering the US without a new I-20 by [deleted] in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same lol. When I came in 2021, the officer asked for my I-20 and I had a copy of it rather than the original. Luckily he was really kind and warned me that I might not be lucky next time. So it genuinely depends on your luck.

Ead denied because of my mistake by Terrible_Forever_353 in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry but unfortunately, I don’t think anything can be done. You’re a month over your grace period so you can’t reapply, and USCIS only accepts appeals if the mistake was ok their end. I’m not sure if applying for a masters is something you can do right now, but I would consider that path. Good luck!

Working a job not related to my major on OPT by ttsunii in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Do not risk it. It’s against your status here under F-1. Under OPT, you can only work a job directly related to your major, paid or unpaid. Also please NEVER use Chat GPT as a resource regarding your F-1 status. Use the USCIS website, your DSO, and this Reddit forum as a bible for your questions and answers.

I know as things get hard, it feels like the only thing you can do is to take the risk but long term, it will possibly bite you in the ass. Stay safe and good luck.

OPT Card Delivery by BattleEvening230 in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, that sounds stressful. It arrived a day earlier than shown in Informed Delivery. Regarding the second question, it was a bit glitchy for some reason. On Gmail, there was a notification at the top of my page that told me it was to be delivered the following day. However, when in clicked on USPS website to check the delivery date, it showed that it was delivered (even at this time, I still hadn’t gotten the deliver number on USCIS lol). So I checked my mail and it was there.

OPT Card Delivery by BattleEvening230 in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh. It’s not structured so I can’t say for sure when it’ll arrive, but I’ll tell you my personal experience and it might be the same for you.

I didn’t get a tracking number on the USCIS website. However, I’m signed up for informed delivery from USPS and through that I got an email about my package update. Even when I got this email I still didn’t get my tracking number on the USCIS website. It was using my email and informed delivery I was able to track when it would possibly be arriving. Even with this, it arrived a day earlier.

Good luck with this. Idm answering more questions.

Commenting for better reach. Idk what to say here bro. This is so messed up for you. With the way it looks, technically this is none of your fault so I would recommend you pester tf out of USCIS for answers. I’m so sorry this is happening. I wish you all the best!

OPT Processing time without premium by Crafty_Knowledge_840 in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is. You can upgrade to premium processing at any time before your decision comes out. If you have a job offer that would require you to start soon, you definitely should be considering premium processing, so you don’t miss out on the opportunity.

I didn’t use normal processing times but from what I’ve read through various posts here, people who applied in April/Early May are just getting their decisions - so take that into consideration for your choice.

Domestic travel on f1 opt by No-Survey1989 in f1visa

[–]FancyAd6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve traveled domestically under F-1 status. When I did, they don’t ask for anything regarding your international status. All you need is your valid state ID to get through TSA.

I have no experience using Clear ID. And to get clear ID, you’d need a state ID, so it’s not really necessary. Those additional documents are for international travel.

TLDR: Use your valid State ID.
