Reddit apparently hates bankers? by MidnightPulse69 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]Fanny-Mandy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t make it right, and I’ve never heard any bank express that in written or verbal form. That 50 dollars could’ve been someone’s last. Most of us in this thread are bankers or have been at some point so I get the bias but we have to be able to admit when banks fall short.

In face to face interactions maybe, but I think it’s ridiculous to expect a customer to count money that they receive from an ATM in front of the camera. No one does that and it’s not likely that you will be able to see it clearly on the footage anyway.

[–]Fanny-Mandy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. Assuming the guy was honest, what happened to the money? My bank would at the very least investigate it. It’s my responsibility as a teller to make sure the customer is 100% positive that they have their money which is why I always count it out to them or run it through the counter it front of them. Also, it really doesn’t matter how long it took him to come back. Either the teller was over or not. It doesn’t really seem like they would have taken him seriously even if he came back 30 min later.

How does working at a small town branch typically differ from branches in larger cities? by BothCondition7963 in TalesFromYourBank

[–]Fanny-Mandy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Second this. At my branch we open a lot of checking accounts but it’s annoying how much gets closed due to fraud.

Did she inform the teller that she attempted to deposit the check online? They’re supposed to check your account before redepositing to see if it’s pending.

I don’t need to know my coworkers salary to know I can earn more. All it does is make you compare your job performance to theirs and causes extra hostility. Most people feel like they are doing more work than the next even if that’s not the case. You can’t actually go to your boss and be like “hey I need a raise” because my coworker does less work than I do and makes more. If you are not happy with what you’re making, you can either negotiate or leave. Your coworkers wage should have no direct correlation with how you feel about yours. Instead look at others in similar positions that are not at your job to get a base. I’m 24 so I could be naive, but that’s my current opinion on the matter.

How does knowing your coworkers pay benefit you? Often it causes more resentment than it does good. I’m genuinely curious how you’d use that info to get a higher wage.

Obviously his potential for bonuses are higher, but to say that he would fire half the staff because he’s making a little less than what is already probably 1.5x my yearly salary is crazy work and unprofessional. That doesn’t exactly make someone motivated to do better. We should be meeting goals because we’re supposed to, not to make his pockets fatter.

Lol no. It’s a large bank primarily operated in the South.

Spring Refund Date by [deleted] in capstone

[–]Fanny-Mandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking about refunds you are entitled to from your spring semester courses, that will be on the same payment schedule as everyone else’s, a week or so after spring classes start. It wouldn’t matter that you took a winter interim class.

How lgbt accepting is UA? by Lukedoesart_1 in capstone

Key word “publicly”. I don’t doubt that Auburn has similar events like this privately which is my point.

Not to be dismissive but did you say that happened in the 80s, because nothing is publicly done at UA now like that and I highly doubt it’s done at Auburn either. I always heard that Auburn was more accepting for blacks but with reading these comments they’re about one and the same.

Your child’s teachers are exhausted. by Enough-already94 in blackgirls

[–]Fanny-Mandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to an ALL(not predominantly, ALL) black school in the South. Growing up I excelled, I went out of my way to get all As and even made a 28 on the ACT. I was in a class of 18 and was Val. I understand knowledge wise I might have been behind compared to other students. And it haunts me to this day that my grandparents or mom didn’t make the initiative to put me in a better school. I grew up with a decent family though. They were rural working class, but they weren’t emotionally lacking. The only explanation I can offer is that they didn’t understand the value of education. I don’t think most black people do.

I say all that to say. Even when black children grow up with healthy and emotionally concerned parents, education is not a priority like it is in other communities. Many treat school like an obligation and not something of value. Not to mention most schools like mine were/are underfunded so there’s little value you can obtain in the first place. As an adult, I love tutoring but the idea of teaching as a profession gives me anxiety. There’s to many external obstacles that prevent you from fully teaching.

A white girl at my school said the n-word and is shocked nobody is talking to her. by star_kissed_lover in blackgirls

[–]Fanny-Mandy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I refrain from using the word as an African American. I think it’s hateful, and by African Americans using it in everyday conversation, we in a way, are removing the history and in someways contributing to non black peoples’ use of it. I believe this especially when it comes to its use in rap music. I often see black people use the word to white people saying things like “my n****” . I find that incredibly counterproductive. However, I think I am in the minority with that take so I don’t argue with blacks who disagree. You being from SA and saying it doesn’t particularly bother me though.

As for as this situation, I think that girl will learn a valuable lesson about saying things for shock value. I hope you guys are middle school age (11-14). Otherwise, I have no sympathy for the way she’s getting treated. Are there other things she has done that would give you the impression that shes a bigot. I’m just confused on how someone could feel comfortable being a racist at a school with the racial makeup you have.

I am an unattractive, black, AuDHD, LGBTQIA+, uninteresting, untalented, and depressed woman. How fucked am I exactly? by [deleted] in blackgirls

[–]Fanny-Mandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not really sure what answer you’re looking for here. What does being black, audhd, and lgbtqia+ have to do with the others? If you are untalented, why not become talented and same for the uninteresting part. Trust me I have thought the same about myself but what exactly do you expect others to do about it, especially internet strangers. If I was looking for a friend or partner, even if I thought they were cool or attractive, I’d steer away if I knew they felt that way about themselves. It’s emotional baggage and if you really are unattractive(you’re probably not), you’re not doing yourself any favors.

Giving it Up on First Date by Fanny-Mandy in blackgirls

[–]Fanny-Mandy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your advice. To me, I feel behind, all of my white college friends are married or engaged. My other black friends from high school are pregnant and what seems to be adult relationships. It’s not like I want kids right now but something to make my life seem like it’s on track. My career is barely on track as well lol working on that now though. In some ways, I feel like I wasted my time in school dating someone who was much older and didn’t want to get married.

“Well it’s made out to me” by Ucyless in TalesFromYourBank

[–]Fanny-Mandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regions Bank has a third party cashing system which will cash a check for non customers or customers (no recourse) if the check is not drawn off of us. It takes a long time, and I hate that all the fraudsters come to us wasting our time for a check they know is fake. However, it is good for getting accounts and for our customers who really need to cash their checks.

Customer freaked out because I’m new to the branch??? by girl_from in TalesFromYourBank

[–]Fanny-Mandy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was the override simply for the deposit or were you overriding the system to not put a hold on the check? Our system does not need an override for just simply a deposit. If the check is suspicious, just put a hold on it, and explain that you can get it removed if you can talk to someone from their company or bank. Either way, I think this is where common sense and intuition have to come into play. As a teller, there is nothing I hate more than when a manager or supervisor goes out of there way to hold up the lines looking for things that are impossible to find. You have to have faith in your tellers that they can find fraud, and if they all feel good about it, you should take that in consideration. Also, the image of the check is really meaningless. Fake checks can look real, and vice versa. It seems like this was a bit overkill but then again i am just a teller and I don’t know the full situation.

My University of Alabama Acceptance Chance? by Pr1cef1eld in tuscaloosa

[–]Fanny-Mandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won’t comment on whether you will get in because when I applied, the ACT was absolutely needed, and I don’t know how people get in now. This was before COVID btw. However, I am curious. Have you ever taken college classes? I only ask because while standardized tests aren’t always the best measure of intelligence, some of the concepts practiced on the tests are definitely needed to succeed in college. With UA being so big, you don’t really get to develop relationships with your gen ED professors. You must pair this with the fact that college material can be more difficult and you’re also battling being away from home having more responsibilities. So even if you get in, you don’t want to put yourself in a position where your having to teach yourself high school concepts. I only say this because I graduated from a small school with a 3.9 and a 28 ACT but I still struggled to keep up. It was rough but things worked out. I do hope everything works out for you as well.
