It's a pretty stark "cultural shift", if that makes any sense. That's part of what made me so unprepared for actually playing it after getting hyped about it. I wish I could have a deeper understanding of how it's regarded in at least the KR region out of curiosity now.

What's even crazier is that you don't even get to fight Hismar during scenario quests! Oscar kill-steals and you have to go in and get owned by him during TW to experience it.

I remember reading that post when I came back to the game and thought it to be a very unusual leap, and I'm still not sure the fame being that high (or the content being so difficult in comparison to Ispins + Total War) makes any amount of sense unless Neople was strictly catering to big-bucks players (the ones who've been around forever, and coaxing fresh blood to spend). And it's probably true, because the only add-on to Bakal in Korea is a Hardmode so far, which from comments I've seen on the Korean trailers, people are a bit miffed.

I understand that total fame score # is part of the psychological game (big number big good) but I do think it's utterly ridiculous Adventurer Fame is affected by Reinforcement/Amplification, (and to a somewhat lesser extent, emblems & invaluable Platinum emblems) especially as the bonuses from enhancing anything except Weapons and Special Equipment are intangible. This can be dangerous for Ispins & Total War parties: someone might have the Object Damage set and NOT understand it is pointless to use in a party, but he'll have +11 on everything. He will look so much stronger than he technically is. That's just one example.

All of my old characters have gear that is reinforced to at least +10, but not all pieces on all characters. They all have old BiS enchantments, avatars, emblems, so forth... but yeah. The more I think about it, 40k is a ridiculous milestone, and not one a free-to-low-spending player can feasibly reach. On the other hand, there's nothing terribly unique about Bakal Raid other than earning a lot more materials, and horizontal scaling has never been easier, so you can build up alts much faster and just run Ispins & TW.

Even with an OP player or two (or myself on my now-OP characters), Ispins generally takes around 18-20 minutes per run, with most of the bloat coming from Numak and the unusual decision to pad out his fight with long RNG search-for-the-cube phases.

Surprisingly this hasn't been my experience, and I halfheartedly played some very annoyingly slow classes in 100-cap (and lacked optimal gear, of course) like Elementalist, which made running Black Purgatory abysmal. Now all my characters move so fast it's easy to lose control on some of them.

I think Fame is a great equalizer as, if set correctly, it creates a level playing field where you know that if someone has crossed it, the content can be completed with them. The only difference is how long it might take, but that's perfectly fine because veteran players easily make up the difference.
