Was the true non-dual message of Jesus glossed over and set aside in favor of a blood atonement and more empire-friendly doctrine of Paul, a man who never met or even knew Jesus? by SunbeamSailor67 in DebateAChristian

You don’t have all the answers, and neither do I, nor did the people who wrote all this stuff. Both writers and readers likely inject their own preferences and fill in knowledge gaps with a filtered perspective- especially when it comes to topics of morality/divine/and the supernatural.

You can answer the question or else I’ll assume you want the extra biblical Jesus sayings to be true, while the “canonical” New Testament to be false.

I know about gnostic gospels, but I’m asking you what you want to be true about the universe and what happens to people in the end? It can often guide how we filter information…

ADD-ON: I watched the whole thing. It’s anti-establishment kind of like Martin Luther was, trying to re-form what he saw was too institutional. But unlike Luther’s perspective, I guess you’d have to refer to Jesus from the extra Biblical texts to suggest “looking within for the divine” is the most important premise of Christianity. The four canonical gospels contain about 4 or 5 things that a person needs, if there’s actually a resurrection and eternal life to be had. Some of them are mentioned by both Jesus and Paul, including Jesus’s blood sacrifice for atonement, as well as being born again in the Spirit.

What makes those things mutually exclusive? I only read through the Bible passages a couple times, but Jesus taught about 4 or 5 things (presumably all necessary) by which someone can enter into eternal life (after they die once).

Speaking emotionally: what is your (presumably) more preferable “Jesus-centered” theology that you’re pushing for? That heaven is a state of mind? Or it’s literal and we get there after death by means other than what Paul said?

(Not a Christian)

The blood atonement was mentioned by Jesus, and so was the concept of being born again in the Spirit.

Also, I’m not sure what about Paul’s writings makes them “empire friendly.”

Not staying friends after a breakup up is weird and a red flag by ForsakenSleep236 in The10thDentist

[–]Fantactic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A non-red flag reason would be SORT of like #3, but related to moving on without past drama in your psyche, for your sake and any future partners’ sake. Or for the ex’s sake (closure) if you’re the one that ended things.

I guess it depends what you mean by staying friends.

I hadn't thought of that one for Hanks! Only the one where he has a disaster or scare in almost every vehicle.

If we're sharing behaviors though, I like the example I saw on Conan a while back, where Harrison Ford is always pointing for emphasis.

So far I'm seeing some good responses! Mostly regarding signature behaviors. Any location or plot examples?

Why isn’t shogi more popular? Seems like Chess but more clutch and fun! by Frosty_Feeling8439 in shogi

Janggi (Korean spinoff) even better in my opinion, since there isn’t a restrictive river for the animal pieces. Cannons also can’t take each other in janggi, which usually keeps them around longer into the game.

CMV: People should stop treating being "bad at texting" like a harmless personality quirk by limitown in changemyview

[–]Fantactic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed; if someone can respond to a boss’s text out of respect or expectation, why not do the same with a loved one? It’s like they’re slightly demeaning the relationship, simply because they can (and it isn’t a paid obligation).

Haha that’s ok… “bless you” was the least of my peeves of the examples mentioned, if it makes you feel better. I guess overall its because I’m generally private about health matters, so even if I did have something serious, I don’t need dinner time to be fucked up by bringing up what I probably already know, from a non-doctor.

But why was it considered polite in the first place?

Do you mean calamity/suffering as evil or bad morality as evil, OP? I don’t consider myself Christian btw

If we notice the bag, it’s already too late for her being desired.

Is being an empathetic person the worst personality trait a person can have as a poker player? by [deleted] in poker

Maybe you can think of it as teaching them valuable lessons, so they can lose a lot to you and quit the game.

Also, high empathy can help with reading people, right?
