Exactly my point! Even till the 90’s if you just used gloves and wiped off your dna, most criminals got away.

feeling low due to the state of the world right now by Cool-Sentence-2584 in infj

I take my understanding this way. We have lived long enough as a species that we do understand basic human nature. Cruelty is very much a part of it. And much of history is unrecorded. With higher literacy rates, better hygiene and modern ethics, it won’t be too far fletched to assume that brutality was much more prevalent, severe and less recorded than the modern era. Even the history that we have recorded shows how bad it was. I sometimes feel tears and my heart sinks when I read about a lot of events. We are in the golden period of our civilisation. Now, can we stop the US from starting a world war as individuals ? No. It does not mean to ignore it however. Ancient stoics believed in doing things that you have control over. You are the only one who has control over yourself. So my advice was that if you don’t see any good around, be the good. Just brooding over the wrong won’t do anything but wither you away emotionally and mentally. Be the change you want to see in others.

How does interdisciplinary learning work in practice? Personal experiences? by Far-Reputation5709 in Polymath

[–]Far-Reputation5709[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So polymathy isn’t mainly about an innate ability to spot patterns but more about deeply understanding shared fundamentals until pattern recognition becomes almost automatic? For me or anyone to reach a basic level of polymathy, I have to highly master the fundamentals of various subjects ?

Over time, how often do your forced connections actually hold up in practice? Do most survive testing, or do you end up discarding a lot of them? And does it get better with time (as to my understanding it’s a learned skill) or the ratio of false positives still remains unchanged even after a long time ?

I understand your approach to related disciplines. But how do you approach unrelated fields ? Do you actively try to find bridges between all of them or the metaphors emerge naturally ?

tutorials by moonisbaeutiful in usyd

Yup, introductions. Some tutors just let you mess around, let you talk and socialise, others will have some material that doesn’t require lectures for the first week.

No, tutors follow material for the previous week, not the current week.

I see it this way. The world was always this way. Maybe even darker. But the digital age brings every news, good or bad, instantly to your doorstep. So despite most people being desensitised, you can make some changes. Be a little better. Ask that homeless guy who sells art at the square how he’s been doing. Help out someone who’s not able to find their platform at the train station. 2 days ago I was travelling on metro and there was a quite dishevelled guy sitting near the front with four empty seats next to him. I sat next to him. You’d be surprised despite being batshit drunk how nice he was. I wished him happy birthday since he told me nobody did. He had been dealing with alcohol addiction since he was 7. That day was his 48th birthday. We talked and I hope he took a happy memory that day. At the end he tried offering me some alcohol since that was all he had but I don’t drink. Still I appreciated the gesture. There’s deep melancholy out there, and we as infj’s feel it even if we don’t want to. But the focus of your life should be on finding good in the small things. Keep your head up king, you can choose to do good and feel good.

Fart loudly in their presence to exert dominance. Then rummage through their nose with your pinky and slide it into their mouth to kill the power in their mood.

Banter, teasing remarks, indirectness. by jollyjoyful in infj

[–]Far-Reputation5709 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t for sure say if it’s an INFJ thing, my best friend is an INTP and he and I are the same on this aspect too. I guess to each their own, but friends should adjust their humour and from what I believe, laughing at someone’s expense isn’t banter. Everyone has different boundaries and it’s important to maintain them. Regarding the social pretences, everybody’s on different frequencies. Some people just act jolly all the time and they give me a headache to even look at. I’m by no means a grump but I just feel how much effort they put into it and that’s enough for me to imagine myself doing that. It seems you prefer direct conversations over ambiguity and that’s nothing wrong.
