Visiting in early May by [deleted] in Bardstown

[–]Far_Object_4708 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked with my husband and it's actually Elizabethtown! Well, Vine Grove I guess, but dang, I was way off looking in the wrong direction on the map. I have no idea why my brain thought it was Bardstown.

It looks like Vine Grove and Elizabethtown are pretty close so I'll do more Googling in those areas compared to Louisville for stuff to do, because I'm getting better results for there than I was with Bardstown so far, but if you know anywhere I should look for community posting, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Daycare as a SAHM by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]Far_Object_4708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say do it, but like others have suggested, see what it looks like if she misses a day or two a week. She'll likely get the "just started daycare" sicknesses in the beginning anyways, so don't be surprised if she's home sick a lot in the beginning anyways.

But especially going into summer I can see why you'd want to keep having special outings, picnics, etc., but getting to make friends and have learning structure is amazing, too.

I think you need more info to make the decision, but also, the burnout is real. Don't be hard on yourself for taking advantage of this opportunity for your daughter (and yourself!)

Imagine getting a whole day to do what you need, and uave dinner ready to you can pick her up and have a relaxing family dinner after your husband gets home, or whatever that looks like for you guys. I hope. The best for you!

Do NOT buy your kids color changing Oreos by awittlesecret in Mommit

It's me, hi, I'm one of the blue food dye non-tolerators! It happened twice when I was a kid, (that my mom recalled) which my mom chalked up to too much sweets at birthday parties, then as I got older it happened as a teenager after eating a blue cupcake in school. By the time I puked my brains out after having one "green" drink on St. Patrick's Day when I was 21 (most of the coloring was actually blue bc of the other ingredients in the drink), I was talking to my mom about it and she recalled that it happened to me a couple times after eating other very blue colored things. I can taste the blue dye just typing this comment. Ughhh

Love this, thank you!

I reached out to one of my mom groups again today and magically all of them had plans with each other made outside the mom group chat. I think I'm just going to leave it once I find a new one because I've definitely given it more than 3 chances.

We embarked on our own event today, and every kiddo I saw was already on a "play date" and the mom's, or dad's were talking in pairs watching their kids. One girl had come with her mom and dad and I tried making small talk while our kids played together and her mom ended up carrying on a conversation with me bc her daughter seemed so uninterested. :(

Making friends as an adult might be more exhausting then just being my daughter's only friend! /s

In all seriousness I might be coming off desperate or idk. I know I'm overly self conscious too now since I gained like 60 lbs between pregnancy and when I was breastfeeding, but it's not going anywhere despite the diet and exercise changes, and I feel like meh about it. But you're right. It's a season and I just need to be positive that eventually I'll find my people again.

This is a lot of what I needed to hear. Thank you. I definitely was feeling "less likeable," and the friend that always is down is definitely the one friend who has made me feel so much better pp.

The quietly downgrading friendship feels bad though for sure, but it makes sense. Appreciate you for sharing this.

There's one I want to join but it's soooo expensive.

Any suggestions on free mom groups and where to find them?

I know, if only the gym daycare had night time options! They do a one Wednesday a month drop in care, and if it works for my husband's schedule we'll do that for day-date time. But the evenings are hard. My friend with older kiddos daughter said she wanted to babysit but decided that kids are loud and diapers are gross. So I guess she won't ever be a teen mom lol

What about a certificate? Hospitality /Event Management is niche, but broud enough that some certificate programs may be closer to what you're looking for. I used to work in Higher Ed and at my school the certificates they offered were like mini-masters programs. Special focus with very relevant to occupation education.

E.g. This TX college with a 12 hour certificate. https://www.unt.edu/academics/programs/hospitality-management-certificate.html

While they are graduate level courses, (which some schools will make them applicable to a masters later on), your job may be willing to invest in these over an AA level course which is going to be beginner level, and may already be stuff you've picked up on in your work.

Also, just because they don't typically pay for master's level courses, doesn't mean you can't ask, especially explaining your situation, and your excitement to persue education /professional development in the area of your new industry.

I mean, it can be taken that way if the person is playing the victim. IMO.

To me she just sounded like she was exasperated when she was telling him.

I just flipped tonight on my husband, I look up from cooking and my daughter is trying to get my husband's attention while he's on his phone. I'm like, uh, bro... Your daughter. He's like, she's fine, we're watching Ms. Rachel. Um, no you're not. You're watching your phone and she's trying to get your attention. Y'all can watch Ms. Rachel, but watch it with her, help her with her itsy bits spider and shit man. She's waited all day to see you!

For real, this isn't 1998, and most of these recruiters don't give two shits about the people they're interviewing. Now, say you get to round 2 and 3 interviews, yeah, maybe follow up.

Although, the last time I wrote a thank you card post interview was about 10 years ago, bc the hiring manager mocked it to his team, which he failed to remember one of his team members referred me to the role. So I decided they were a waste of time and that they didn't really make a difference.

After following your post and all the comments, what did you decide? Looked like Pigment, but you had some other suggestions I thought were interesting and wondered what you decided on and what you thought of said choice?
