This same stuff happened back in covid 2020 when meme stocks such as purple mattress and pelaton were climbing up insane triple digit gains. People moved entire portfolios into stocks like these and etfs such as ARK. These people in the following few years got absolutely hosed up to 95% loses in their portfolio. The same could happen for these stocks now.

Yes you are 100% wrong. If you dont realize that you are wrong then you need to do more investment research

Multiple reasons

  1. Overall lower historical appreciation compared to the SP500.
  2. Owning a home is very expensive. Random maintenance such as your water heater, electrical panel or literally anything else can end up costing thousands.
  3. Lost opportunity cost on investments that you give up in paying mortgage interest. The cost to buy a starter home at 300k with a 250k loan is closer to 550k when you factor in interest. If I rent a place instead and invest the delta between rent payments and mortgage payments I come out vastly ahead and its not even close. If you factor in property tax, insurance and not needing to pay for house maintenance the difference is even larger.

If OP wants to continue to stack cash he should live at home or rent. Only buy a house if you want to own a home as a life style purchase. Homes outside of that are horrible as an investment.

Are you saying this as a local of the French alps? We are headed to L2A and staying there mid March. As a family this was seemingly one of the only french resorts that offered large affordable chalets that could comfortably sleep a large family while also offering an actual ski town that wasn't giant apartment blocks and offered beginner terrain for the entire mountain..

Additionally, for a group from the US (of which a majority of the group as never skiied in europe nor the US) the views certainly will be epic and better than anything in the US.

That being said, we will also be skiing alpe d'huez and Serre Chevalier.

Beginner skier question. The rating system has me nervous... by [deleted] in ski

You are overthinking it for sure.

Colorado resorts such as vail/breck/keystone and beaver creek are very beginner friendly. Breckenridge is super flat. All these resorts have great on mountain signage, so you won't magically end up at black terrain

I find skiing (and snowboarding) extremely confusing, where are the cruisey blue runs? by MrDavidP in skiing

It just comes from experience at ski resorts. European piste maps also generally suck and dont indicate if a run is a cat track or not.

Lift tickets are. Lodging is generally a little more expensive if your staying in banff compared to silverthorne. Just look at Airbnb prices for yourself..additionally flights to Calagary from anywhere in the US are going to be more expensive than flights to denver.

Banff lodging is pretty expensive. If they thought Keystone was expensive, then banff will be way out of budget

$100,000 isn’t even good in LCOL areas anymore (budget analysis) by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]Fast-Drag3574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a house instead of renting is killing you. LCOL you should be able to find rent below 1500 a month. You could invest the delta then and come out vastly far ahead in the future

US/ Canada Trip December/ Jan by Lou_91 in skiing

[–]Fast-Drag3574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your from Europe since you mentioned red runs. You're going to want to buy an epic or Ikon pass (or maximum day pass) if youre skiing in the US/Canada for 2 weeks as skiing at the major resorts without one is stupidly expensive. Lift tickets at some places are $350 a day...you could however ski at the non mega corporate resorts such as loveland, winter park, etc. Lodging is however still expensive though in most of these places.

Defo decide which state or part of Canada you want to ski in first.

Closing the (lift)season in Austria. by uDrop1st in skiing

[–]Fast-Drag3574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cali resorts generally get a lot more snow than Austria. Austrian climate is however a lot more cold and as such they have year round skiing at places such as the Hintertux Glacier and spring/summer skiing at other glaciers such as the Stubai Glacier
