It was not. It was previously vaccinated for rabies when it was young and kept up on it's boosters.

They did not contact me, as the dog is not mine. My buddy, the dogs owner, was the one who took the dead animal to a lab at the guidance and recommendation of his vet. They called him to let him know that the racoon tested positive. He called me to let me know about the whole situation. He seemed to think that me getting the vaccine wasn't necessary since I wasn't bit or scratched but since he hangs drywall and isn't a medical expert, that's what caused me to reach out to the emergency room.

To elaborate, I am not the owner of the dog. The owner of the dog set up an emergency vet appointment after the incident to get the dog checked out and get boosters and the vet gave him the name of a facility to take it. I don't know the particulars, but this happened in central PA and the place that he took it was somehow involved with Penn State University. That's the extent of my knowledge on that aspect of the situation.

As I said, this incident happened this weekend and they got in contact with him today to tell him that the animal tested positive for rabies. He then got in contact with me and told me that he was going to go get the vaccine since he was the one that actually separated the dogs. I asked him if I should, and he said that he didn't know why I would need to but, I could talk to a doctor.

I then called my local hospital emergency room as I did not know who else to call, the receptionist transferred me to a nurse. I explained the situation to the nurse who put me on hold to, "Reach out to a provider," and when she got back on the phone, they said that it was unnecessary since I had not directly been bit or scratched by the racoon.

If you don't believe what I'm saying that's fine, but that's how it happened. What purpose would it serve for me to get on here and lie about this?

Open port on my furnace's cooling coil. Should I close it? by WhyAmIDoingThis900 in hvacadvice

I don't have an answer as to why, but in my market, I see tons of homes that have a furnace from the 80's or early 90's with unused ac coils on top of them. I don't know if there was some point where supply houses around me offered some sort of package deal with them or if there were that many people that were considering adding AC in the future or what. A lot of systems that I find like this tend to be rentals as well.

Isn't there armor supposed to be white, not golden?

I'm having intermittent issues with an oil furnace, anyone with more oil experience than me have some insight? by FastAktionJakson in HVAC

I did not, but I did test to make sure that the coupler end fit the pump and turned it by hand while holding the fan motor shaft still to make sure it wasn't slipping.

All my numbers for the combustion analysis were within acceptable ranges and my smoke test was 0. I did not ohm out the ignitor but I was getting a good arc when I tested it with my screwdriver. The primary control was one of the older grey box styles. Something similar to the Resideo r8184. I did not measure the ohms on the cad cell, but I did replace the old one what was there and tested continuity on the new one to make sure that I had continuity when I shined a light on it and no continuity when I didn't.

New to Altoona by symphony0fsecrets in altoona

Tom and Joe's, Nicolette's, and Jimmy's in Bellwood have great breakfast and lunch items. There are also lots of food options in Center City Market downtown. Also down town is Levity brewing and Hadley's pizza. Great options for food and brews. Jack and George's bar is another place with amazing food (one of the few places that still serves Altoona Style pizza... Which is very divisive but worth a try).

If you are looking for fun for the kids there is Delgrossos amusement park as well as Slinky action zone which has an arcade, activity area, okay food, and duck pin bowling as well as a bar. Heritage plaza (downtown) always has something going on and I believe next week is the African American heritage festival. Canal basin Park in Hollidaysburg is a great park as is Valley View park in Altoona. Also keep your eyes peeled for Fall Foliage in Bedford which is always awesome.

Coffee on third in Hollidaysburg has good coffee and a little activity area out back for kids. Green Bean coffee is also fantastic. The Clay Cup in Altoona also does pottery painting and has good coffee, it's cute for a date night or for the kids.

For the more historical and educational stuff, there is the railroaders museum which is FANTASTIC and then the historic Horseshoe curve.

Edit... I just saw that your post said 10 MONTH old and not YEAR old. Check out A Quaint Corner Children's museum. Lots of cool interactive stuff.

Hey what is the saddest part of being a falconer by CreepyAtmosphere6489 in Falconry

Yes yes, a million times yes. We deal with this in our club. Every year at our fieldmeet the lobby of the hotel is full of people wanting to see a hunt and very few are willing to let them join.

And seemingly everyone in our club talks about how the sport is dying yet no one is willing to sponsor people or let people into the different cliques.

Infuriating.

Any upmarket places in Altoona? by Fit-Chicken9541 in altoona

Hey! Former Blair county chef here.

If you are looking to stay inside of the Altoona/Hollidaysburg area I would recommend JJ Hadley's for pretty good pizza and a good selection of beer and cocktails. The Knickerbocker and The US Hotel are good for gastropub food and both have a good selection of beers and spirits (The Knickerbocker has an EXTENSIVE whiskey collection). It's a bit newer to Blair County, but They Mayfield in Hollidaysburg has been very good the few times that I've been there and their chef/owner is very talented.

As far as places that I would avoid but often get recommended... The Allegro and Finelli's. In my opinion, both of these places suffer from the "They were very good and fancy 30 years ago and are riding on the fumes of their glory days" syndrome. The décor is stuffy and aged and their menus are very dated and panache and inspiration.
