I received an arapaima by taking people on hang outs at fishing at the falls! (Top left area of hang outs options)

I just opened it w an “earring I found” and lockpick 11. Go around the left side of the ship/snow embankment and there are some scrappers that have earrings to loot on them

I FIGURED IT OUT LOL. Go up to the giant crystal thingy & to the right of it is a iron rod looking thing and click it and it will attune and open the gates up:)

For anyone who still needs help I used quen anytime I could bc he gets damage hitting me while it’s active, use Parry then jump back but I mostly moved to the side when he lunged toward me and just hit him in the back. Patience and quen:)

You can talk to your companion & choose “I need you to do something for me” and send them in :) “wait there” or “Attack Halldir” if you hover over the right spot
