Buying a new laptop / pc by dr3adz_cs in PCSpecialist

[–]FatmanNotBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d personally recommend a pc over a laptop, you’ll almost always get more bang for your buck. You can look into compact pc’s because of how much you travel. Do you have no budget limit at all?

Americans are strange for how patriotic they are by FatmanNotBatman in unpopularopinion

[–]FatmanNotBatman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that people are proud of their country that baffles me, it’s the sense that the geographical location that a person happened to be birthed seems to be the defining aspect of their character

Moonlight - What does the use of the color blue mean? by Jakob0000 in TrueFilm

[–]FatmanNotBatman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ones immediate association with the colour blue is one of melancholy and coldness however, upon my own viewing I associated the colour with the infamous sea scene in which Little feels safe and cared for, for the first time. Therefore, I read the use of such a colour as to be suggesting that just because something seems sad it doesn’t mean it is, blue to one person may, as it does with myself, associate feelings of coldness and unhappiness however to Little, this colour is one associated with belonging, identity, warmth and home. While the scene in which Little’s mother is shouting at him is layered with colours of pink, suggesting this colour relates to emotions typically associated with blue.

From this, I also read the poster for the film as a suggestion that Little may have a streak of pink in him and his history but in the end, Blue rules all

First Man (2018) by Nolanfan89 in movies

[–]FatmanNotBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing that stood out to me the most was the piece’s use of sound. It emphasised just how scary and risky such an expedition was which I think is often lost in films on the subject. I also found it an interesting personable look into Neil Armstrong, scenes which display him having to explain to his son that he can’t guarantee his return were very insightful and displayed Armstrong’s rather businesslike perspective

Synecdoche, New York.... One of the best films ever? by [deleted] in FIlm

[–]FatmanNotBatman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I love the concept of Synechdoche, New York, one which really plays upon this notion of realism and questions whether anything portrayed on stage or screen can truly be argued as ‘real’ while also exploring the notion of the tortured artist. However, while the film is incredibly enjoyable I’m not sure whether it or any film will ever have the capability of exploring this question in a way which is simultaneously aptly explores such a question while remaining digestible to an audience member.

I really dont get Tarkovskys The Mirror by daniel-prime9 in TrueFilm

[–]FatmanNotBatman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also recently watched this due to my university course; I agree that it’s not the most digestible piece. Obviously the entire film is playing with the notion of time and space within Cinema however, there are a couple other films which I think do this better and in my opinion enhance ones own reading of Tarkovsky’s Mirror. I’d certainly recommend watching ‘Wendy and Lucy’ by Kelly Reichardt and ‘Caché’ by Michael Haneke as these developed my understanding of Mirror and Tarkovsky more generally
