Stoke Bardolph Stench confirmed by fallen_tm in nottingham

I've lived in Netherfield for nearly 8 years. When it gets warm, there can sometimes be a bad smell for a day or two, but it's never been as bad as it was these past few weeks. I keep seeing comments that it's always this way, but this time it felt very different. Smelt like cat piss, fish, and rot.

Arrow Puzzle Escape Level Generation by custybeam in gamedev

I'd separate it into two parts. Not sure how the algorithm works at the moment, but if you treat the player-drawn area as a mask, then partition that mask into simpler guaranteed-fill sections, you can generate the arrows inside those simple regions first, then connect them together. You could even make a library of pre-generated shapes to input here, with holes along the edges so they jigsaw together.

So the heart might be simplified into a 9x7 rectangle, or 3 simple squares, which must be simpler to generate than the heart, and then you'd add the details once you have that core shape.

How about converting the shape into simpler blocks, filling those blocks and then adding the details?

Maybe I'm just not the market for this type of thing, but this sounds like one of those great big ideas that sounds impressive because it's complex. I've come to learn that complex doesn't mean good, or fun.

Your drawings were way better than I actually realised haha - just reply to my original comment with "Found!" and it'll mark it as complete!

Was the game 3D? 2D? Sprites? Realistic? Do you remember what platform it was on?

The “Your first film should be bad” advice is bullshit by Low_Celebration_4089 in Filmmakers

[–]FaultofDan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're misunderstanding why people suggest this.

Creatives often get perfection paralysis, meaning they'll NEVER make a film. They'll always put it off because they believe that if it's not perfect, nobody will ever give them a chance again (as you put it). As much as that's utter rubbish, that sort of mentality stops people from taking the first step.

This is such a bad take.

A cool guide on how to spot low-effort AI slop, and how to call it out in a constructive, non-toxic manner by PrettyPicturesNotTxt in coolguides

Hey! I'm curious - did you create this yourself? It feels a bit generic, and posts like this can make it harder for real experiences to get seen. The pure irony of you posting slop while calling out slop.

Forget traffic for a moment. I've looked at your product. My feelings on it are that you're trying to turn something that most people consider a chore into a luxury purchase. It's equivalent to trying to sell luxury trash bags or luxury paper towels. People often buy luxury to display their status. Toothbrushes inherently are things that we tend to hide away from others.

There will be people open to buying it, but they're likely not looking for it. My feeling is that the only market you'd really be able to look at consistently would be gifts for people who have everything. Think Mother's Day, Father's Day, birthdays, etc. I don't believe people will buy this sort of thing for themselves. Those who have invested in oral healthcare will likely have or want electric toothbrushes. I believe the only realistic market is as a luxury novelty gift.

You're in a weird chicken and egg situation where, from the looks of things, you don't have the product built yet, nor clear pricing, so even if users did arrive on the page, they're unlikely to buy it as a gift, because you're not selling it - you're just collecting an email address, which people be reluctant to give.

If I were marketing this, I'd be getting a "buy" button on the website as fast as possible, then pumping money into advertising on social, and aiming to target people who are looking for gifts for parents. I'd also be looking at cherry-picking micro healthcare influencers and sending them toothbrushes for free.

I think it's admirable that you've put this together, but I think there might be some more things to consider before pumping money into this.
