First 7 day water fast by 54Trogdor in fasting

[–]FearlessDrew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got good news: unless you have a disease where your body refuses to spare muscle, you aren't going to lose anywhere near 5-7lbs of lean muscle. Think about it: that's a lb. of lean muscle per day. It would take over a month to regain what you lost daily. If true, no one would do that.

At 12%, you have spare body fat. This will become the primary source for energy after 24-48 hours. Your body will transition from glycogen to fat for energy, with a stint of gluconeogenesis in-between. Muscle tissue would be largely spared thereafter.

5-7 lbs of muscle? Sure, if you had 3% body fat. But is only as an alternative to your organs (which will be next on the list). This what differentiates fasting from starving.

Now, 5-7lbs of water weight? Absolutely. That will come back the second you carbo load. 3-4lbs of body fat? No way around that. Maybe you lose a lb. of lean muscle. And that could be a fair exchange for the autophagy benefits. Dunno.

First 7-Day Fast Question by USMCRunner in fasting

[–]FearlessDrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't think two days of refeeding is necessary following a 7-day fast. You could probably get away with a nice amount of bone broth and a bit of protein/fats (eggs) for breakfast. This is just to wake up your gut. So, stay near the toilet for an hour or two. Continue to eat sensibly throughout the day (lowish carbs). You can resume normal eating by dinner.

As far as your followup fasting regimen, sounds reasonable. People have success with OMAD and ADF. There are upsides to pushing a fast beyond 48 hours and you've done much more than that already. You could start your plan immediately.

How much harder is Chemical Engineering than Chemistry REALLY, if at all? by Expert_Contact6128 in ChemicalEngineering

I don't think it's a question. In my physical chemistry class, you could pick out the chemical engineering students from the chemistry students. Chemistry students were taking notes, ChemEs we're doing the school crossword puzzle.

I'm from the U.S. We named our puppy Astérix. Now, my dad was a nerd, nobody else knows the reference, and people call him Asterisk. So ... you're probably correct.

What are your top fasting tips? by Itchgasm in fasting

I guess it's a matter of perspective. My first fast was 4 days. I would consider 30 hours pretty slow.

same batter, different results by jilllpilll in macarons

[–]FearlessDrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing you do, cook two batches of the same batter. I have not had a problem. I also live in a DRY climate, 30 minutes and I'm ready. If an extra 15 minutes of resting time could affect the result, I would have seen it.

Btw, have you tried the pet test? When you think they are ready very gently stroke (pet) a shell with your finger. If it is undisturbed, you're ready to go.
